Hello everyone so I have a four year old who has never slept through the night and recently it’s like he barely sleeps at all. We go to bed at about 8:00 and he wakes up again around 11:40pm then will fall back asleep at around 2:30am he wakes up again then will stay up until about 4:30am -5:00am and we have to get up around 5:40 so I can get to work and I can drop him off at school on time. I have no idea what to do I have tried natural sleep aids but nothing seems to work. I could really use some advice

Have you tried a gro-clock?

CjsMommy23 · 07/03/2020 02:00

No I have not tried that how does it work ?

You set it for the period you want nighttime to be and during that period it displays moon and starts, then when you set it to be morning (ie 5:40) the display changes to a sun. It's very visual so know when they need to stay in bed and when they can get up. You can tell them it's a very grown up thing to have, really worked a treat with my DD.

Thank you I definitely will give that a try Smile

Good luck

We also used a gro clock for my DD (still do)! And it works brilliantly but she’s a bit younger.
What’s your bedtime routine like? 5:40 is a v early start (clearly necessity rather than choice so no judgement) but 4 year olds need a lot of sleep as no longer nap and busy with school. Could he be chronically overtired? Many kids sleep 7-7 could be need a very early bedtime of 5:45/6ish?
What happens when he wakes?

Our bedtime routine is usually bath book then bed. When he wakes up some days he is fine other days he fights with me to get up but eventually is full of energy, our daily routine right now after I get off of work we usually don't get home until after 5:30 he has a small snack while he waits for dinner, we finish eating on a good day around 7 then after dinner I shower then put him in the bath and then read a story and then bed. He's very hyper active during day a huge ball of energy and he takes about a hour nap at school. It's almost like he's very restless.

To be honest it sounds like he’s overtired. Although you’re saying he’s restless, this could be due to not having enough sleep. What time is bedtime?

CjsMommy23 · 07/03/2020 04:58

Bedtime is at 8:00

I'd try moving his bedtime forward at least an hour, sounds like he is overtired and 8-5:40 seems a little short for a 4 year old.
