Short naps in cot

So my 5 month old naps in the day in his cot but only for 30 minutes at a time. He sleeps well at night so this hasn’t been a problem until recently when he’s started having 2 hour naps in the afternoon but only if held! We discovered this as he’d wake up grumpy after 30 minutes and it turned out each time to be tiredness and he ended up sleeping on me or my husband. Currently trying to go back upstairs and settle him again when he wakes then put him down. However, he often wakes up as soon as his head touches the mattress or 5/10 minutes in. Any ideas how to encourage him to sleep longer?

Just keep trying, my son went through phases of only napping/falling asleep on me and then only falling asleep in his cot. You're not doing anything wrong, he probably just needs so extra comfort at the moment

I’m having the same problem with my 6 month old and his daytime naps, he’ll happily sleep on me for an hour or so but every time I try to put him down he wakes up straight away or after 10 mins. I’ve tried everything so I just give up and let him sleep on me or he ends up being tired and miserable for the rest of the day.
