1 year sleep regression, any experience?

My LO turned one about 3 weeks ago. His sleep has gradually improving, around the time of his birthday he finally stopped breastfeeding at 4am and started sleeping through the night (8pm to 7.30am).

However the last few nights he suddenly won't let me put him in his bed without standing and crying (normally I can put him down drowsy and he will settle himself to sleep in a few minutes). And when he wakes in the night, he cries and cries until he is picked up. He instantly settles when I pick him up, but will only fall asleep on me. He was awake 2.5 hours last night, 1 hour the night before, and 2 hours the night before that. He is instantly calm and drops off when picked up.

Is this a sleep regression? I am suddenly getting only 4-5 or so hours of sleep a night, and he is clearly exhausted too, poor little guy. I have tried leaving him to settle himself but after 10-15 minutes he is still standing and sobbing and saying "mama". If my partner goes to him, the LO asks for "mama".

He is 3 meals plus snacks a day, has one breastfeed at bedtime, and has dropped down to one 2-2.5 hour nap after lunch. I went back to work 4 days a week in January, my partner is now a SAHD. They seem to have a nice time when I am at work, my LO is cuddly with me when I am home but doesn't mind when I leave for work in the morning.

Is this normal? Will it pass?

Yes! I just posted a very similar thing about my almost one year old suddenly deciding she doesn’t like to sleep 😭 But in our case it’s more that she flatly refuses to go to sleep until very late at night/early morning. It’s utterly exhausting! She used to sleep 7-7 Sad

@EeeyMacarena ugh it sucks! I have been wondering if it's teething, or that he is learning to walk... He zooms around holding the furniture constantly, and has started "bouncing" when standing in his cot which I read somewhere is a precursor to walking too (strengthens the muscles, apparently!).

I am sorry that you are also suddenly sleep deprived too!
