Night feeds (BF) - when did they stop for you?

So my 16 month old DD is still waking for at least one feed a night. I know she doesn't need the overnight calories and it's just for comfort, but she does it none the less. My mum can settle her without it but it takes longer, however when it's me going in to her she won't accept anything but the boob.

I have a question - when did night feeds stop for you? Did you let them come to an natural end or does this almost always require some sort of intervention?

I'm tired alot, yes, but if I get to bed early enough I can often still get about 8 hours sleep a night so it's not awful.

I guess I'm hopeful that she will just stop wanting the feeds or will start sleeping through naturally as I don't have the energy nor the courage to try and break the habit by withholding.

Your thoughts would be hugely appreciated!

21 mo but gently encouraged by me with a lot of preparation and some play it by ear and see if a cuddle will work first etc. When I actually went for it, it was 3 nights before he didn't even ask but virtually no tears.

We kept bed sharing as required. Sending DH in was not an option.

DS sleep improved lots after that. He doesn't often sleep through but often just a snuggle will do (I give up and get in with him to be honest as I maximise sleep that way). He's 2y7mo now
