Night waking intervals

Our 14wk DD is generally a little star at sleeping, but her nighttime waking intervals are a bit weird (and tiring). We do bath, booby, bed at around 6.30, with her down by 7.45 usually, she'll then wake maybe once or twice but is generally down for the night by 9.30pm latest. We can then get up to 6hrs straight, but once she wakes up (2-3am usually) she'll then wake every 1-2hrs after that, being awake for good around 8.30/9am. She's easy to get back to sleep with a bounce or a boob, but im wondering why she can manage that first stretch, but not a second one. Is there anything i can do to help her join up her sleep in the second half of the night?

Sounds very normal for her age.

Be prepared....4 month sleep regression will probably hit soon and you will miss the current routine!

Tbh at the moment im not too worried about "fixing" it, I just find it really bizarre/interesting that she can only manage one stretch - id love to know the science behind that!

All anyone wants to tell me about is the 4 month sleep regression. Literally any conversation i have with anyone about how DD sleeps involves dire warnings about how miserable my life will become in 3 weeks. I am SO ANXIOUS about the 4 month sleep regression that i am actually lying awake at night worrying about it, while my baby is sound asleep.

Sounds like you're little one is doing well. 4 month sleep regression is frustrating more than anything. Some children are affected more than others

I've got 4 children, none of them had the 4 month sleep regression so don't worry yourself as it may not happen.

I'd never heard of the 4 month sleep regression until I joined Mumsnet.

I could have written exactly what you ahve just written. My DS (4months yesterday) is, Exactly the same. Down for about 7.30 with wakening until around 9.30 quick Boob and back to sleep. Then we get to anywhere between 3 and 5 then after that it is event 60-90 minutes. Wake up is almost aways bang on 8am.

Not sure where I learned this (or even if it is true, did my sleep deprived brain make this up?) but I think it’s because they are more tired at the start of the night than the end, so they sleep better, imagine you wake up at five, you are more rested than at 11 at night so you find it harder to get back to sleep. Btw I’m pretty jealous of your sleep times, the 4 month sleep regression has broken my baby (or something has) and he sometimes does a little three hour stretch at the start of the night but then is often up every two hours (or less) after that. Waaaaaah!
