So my 6 week old has a really bad cold, i've got snuffle babe, and my partner is getting a saline nasal thing after work, she is obviously very needy and will only sleep on me which i am absolutely fine with.. but all she is doing is sleeping, ive woken her up to change nappy/feed her but she just isn't interested in feeding.. i'm combi feeding but neither is taking her fancy. Will she just wake up when she's ready or shall i keep waking her up?

Sorry to hear your baby is poorly :( how long is it since she fed?

basicwitches · 27/01/2020 13:31

5oz feed at 7.30 am, woek her up at 11 and she had 30ml then went straight back to sleep. When i put her to the breast she just cried at me so hasn't has any breast milk today. She's been like this for a few days but today is the worst :(

Calpol plug in. They are a godsend. My dd is 1 now and I wish I'd known about them when she was younger. It helps them breathe and hopefully help her feed better. Xx

Thank you, i'll send my partner to get one of them aswell! X

As she is so young, I would keep waking her every 3 or 4 hours to try and feed

Are you getting wet nappies? Personally I would call the doctors they have a low threshold for looking at babies my doctor always would look at my baby if I was concerned even if it was to say they were fine

My daughter is 6 weeks tomorrow and has had a cold since week 4 - just be aware many of the plug ins and snufflebabe style rubs are 3 mths plus x

Still getting wet nappies yes, but not as 'full' as they'd usually be, i may just call the doctors! Ahh i'll make sure he gets age correct stuff! Thank you everybody

There's not a lot you can do for them when they're so young. DS has a cold a couple of weeks ago, we had steamy showers with him in the room and a humidifier for the bedroom. We also had a nasal aspirator and saline drops for helping him to breath. DS was still feeding properly though, if he didn't I would have called the doctor.

Ahhh me again, she's woken up this morning with a red, crusty gooey eye.. cold has got loads better but is it a symptom of that or is it the start of conjunctivitis? First time mum as you can probably tellBlush

We didn't have that with the cold but we did with an eye infection. Drops sorted it out in less than a week.

I seem to remember crusty eyes often being a cold symptom - try squeezing some breast milk in her eyes. Sounds odd, but seems to work!

If you can encourage the bf & up it for a bit then your body will give her immune benefits for the specific virus (regardless of whether you have it) as a response to her infection which will help her fight it. Your supply will up in the short term. Maybe try the saline drops just before a feed to clear the nasal passages.

Also echo pp - breast milk is the most effective treatment for her eye. Other than that just she’ll be needy for a bit but hopefully over it soon.
