Hi all.

Has anyone got any tips on how to get my 5 month old to sleep without the breast? It's getting so much I'm considering stopping breastfeeding 😭 she will literally feed for an hour to stay on until she falls asleep. She's goes to bed at 7pm, bath at 6pm.

She's always ready for sleep/nap when I put her down. Rubbing her eyes, yawning etc, and when she does go down she usually sleeps okay. Naps 30-45 mins 2-3 times a day, but she still feeds every 2 hours and has done since birth. All I want is to be able to put her down for nap without feeding her to sleep, if she doesn't have the boob she will not stop crying until I give in, and I'm not going to keep letting her cry so I do give in, I literally cannot comfort my baby without the breast and it's wearing me down :(

Any advice/ tips will be greatly appreciated xxxxx

Do you have a partner who can help you? I feed our DD, put her down drowsy and if she can't get herself off to sleep my DH goes in, picks her up and settles her back down. It took a bit of time to get her used to it, but the key thing is that if the magic milk machine isn't actually there, as long as she's not hungry she'll eventually chill out and go to sleep. Try just stepping back from bedtime completely and letting your partner manage it, if you can, and once she's cracked that then start work on naps, maybe?
