2.5 sleep issues

Is there a sleep regression around 2.5 years / 27 months

My lo has always been a great sleeper until recently!
She sleeps most nights still fine occasionally I have to go in to just say ssshh but not very often

But the early morning wakings it was 6.15 then it’s been getting earlier until 5.10 this morning!!! I try to get her to go back to sleep etc but when she’s shouting get me out me awake it’s difficult as don’t want to wake eldest daughter this morn she had wee then clean pull up on at 5.15 think she dozed or tried to sleep but 5.30 shouting to get out! I laid with her till 6 then gave up she wasn’t going back off so tv it is 😞

Trouble with her waking earlier is she’s super tired in morn wanting earlier nap apart from in nursery where she can last till after lunch for
Nap

Any tips / advice or just roll with it?

Cut the nap and if she's still in a cot, put her in a bed.
She might also be cold.
Cut the nap time down to a power nap or cut it completely if it's already short.
The bed is for space (I'd expect she's already in a bed anyway but just incase)

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 22/01/2020 14:20

Having the same issue with my LO...its a cycle though, if up a 5.30am its hard to cut the nap as we have utter melt downs by midday. Im making a point to keep naps to 1 hr and see how we go (she naps at nursery so we wont cut it all together).

My LO is in a cot bed, still with the bars.....interesting that Onlyforthis2 mentions space...i dont think thats the problem for us.

Ronnie1234 · 22/01/2020 14:24

Agree onlyfools sounds like we in same boat!
We've limited nap to an hour too at home & nursery
She cannot survive without a nap & is begging for one
She's still in cot bed too with sides up
In a gro bag too
I've offered her a pillow & duvet but she doesn't want it

Gro clock
I introduced it when DS was about 18 months and it worked like a dream
Best £20 I ever spent, I'm not exaggerating!
We had plenty of sleep problems with DS but the gro clock solved the early wakings and it was painless

Modestandatinybitsexy · 22/01/2020 14:34

My 2.5yo DS is an early waker. We bought him a colour changing clock for Xmas. We didn't like the gro clock as it didn't have the time.
The clock has worked really well! If it's blue he stays in bed, yellow he can play in his room, green and we get up.

Ronnie1234 · 22/01/2020 14:38

Namechange - I'm debating the gro clock still got my eldest so if nothing changes by next week (I'm away for a few days) time to introduce the gro clock I think!

Modestandtinybitsexy - which clock did you buy? I'm debating a different one ... maybe simpler than gro clpck

GroClock saved my sanity. Around the same age my DD started calling out and asking if it was time to get up, often at ludicrous times! 3am, once. So we got her a GroClock, and she still has it now at nearly 6. We told her that when it changed to the sun she could get up/call us, and if the first number was a 7 then she could play in her bed until the sun came on. She still does it now, only she reads instead of plays. But as soon as it's 7:30 we hear her getting up.

I don't think it works for all DC, but it's worth a try IMO! It does have a clock on it as well the sun/moon.

Good luck, it's hellish when they suddenly stop sleeping well! Dreading DS reaching that age, he's not so much one for following the rules...

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 24/01/2020 10:39

Im sick of the 5am wake ups...another 1 today...told my husband to deal with it as I cant handle another one.

Might sack off naps this weekend and see how we do.

Ronnie1234 · 25/01/2020 08:08

Onlyfools let me know how it goes
I don't think my lo will last without her nap!!
She woke 6 last two days at my sister at home this morn back up 5.15 😫

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/01/2020 08:11

No nap yesterday and slept 7pm-6.50am, however that was with daddy, I’m apprehensive how to survive a whole day without a any downtime for me (selfishly) today. I’m going to guess that if we a particularly exhausting activity (soft play, trampoline park) then she will still nap otherwise we will go without. Will see how today goes

Sipperskipper · 25/01/2020 08:13

If she is napping earlier in the day, that will reinforce the early waking, as she is ‘making up’ for the lost sleep with an early nap.

I really would cut the nap altogether, reduce it to half an hour, or just give a nap every couple of days. It will be tough at first, but just try and distract her by going out / doing some extra fun things. Hopefully then as she starts sleeping longer in the morning, she will be much less tired.

Ronnie1234 · 25/01/2020 17:08

That's good onlyfools

Yes sipperskipper limiting nap could be solution
But she so tired at the mo she s begging for a nap in the morn apart from nursery days

OP posts:
OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/01/2020 17:46

Think we are screwed over here- she was exhausted and slept for 2.5hrs....gues that’s sleep debt from yesterday.

Ronnie1234 · 27/01/2020 07:04

What happened after the 2.5hr nap?

My lo only had 20 min nap Saturday & slept till 7 Sunday 😊
But yesterday 50 min nap & back up at 5 this morn 🥱
Going to limit nap to 40 mins today at nursery see how it goes

Maybe I’m in the minority here but I have just accepted that my child is an early waker! Went through a phase of 5am every day, I would go and read stories to her to try and get her back to sleep, sometimes she did but most often not, and if not id allow her to get up at 6. Now she sleeps til between 5.30-6 everyday, sometimes later, like today til 7! Which means I’m awake anyway because I’m so used to getting up early haha. She is just growing out of it I think. Maybe not helpful but I sometimes think trying to “fix” their sleep gets more stressful than just getting up early.

But I will say about the naps, we did a long time of sometimes napping / sometimes not depending how tired she was. If I really didn’t want her to nap I’d just make sure we did a really distracting activity so she couldn’t think about it (eg baking right about nap time so she’d want to do that, then want to wait for the biscuits to be cool enough to eat etc etc).

I do know how tiring it is, though. I hope it all improves soon one way or another.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 27/01/2020 08:10

She slept 8-7....8pm is not something I will continue with, just because it was Saturday and a long nap day. Yesterday slept for 1 hr and slept 7.30-7...so I guess it is just luck of the drawer. Still going to limit naps to 1-1.5hr max unless ill or a particularly exhausting activity, but I guess an early riser is an early riser

Ronnie1234 · 02/02/2020 07:41

Haven't changed anything but it has improved since Tues to 6 - 6.45 wakings so manageable
How's everyone else doing?
If she's in nursery she lasts till after lunch for nap other days though she's begging for a nap by 11 at latest & I can't last her out so she ends up having hour before lunch
It doesn't seem to matter when she has the nap ... we'll not do far
I have bought a sleep clock which seems simpler then the gro clock so trying that

Yesterday 5.35 and today 5.15....no more children!!!

Ronnie1234 · 02/02/2020 20:37

Onlyfoolsnmothers
Oh no 🤦🏼‍♀️ what about naps?!

OP posts:
OnlyFoolsnMothers · 02/02/2020 20:45

Friday was 1.5hr naps and yesterday was (shamefully) 3hrs because she’d been suffering with the cold all day and with the early morning she struggled to wake and we thought we’d let her sleep.Confused she also woke at 1am to
Use the sodding potty!
1 hr nap today and bed at 7 so let’s see...but am resigning myself to I have an early riser!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 03/02/2020 14:46

FYI Ronnie1234 Yesterday 1 hr nap- awake at 5.15am this morning.......

Ronnie1234 · 03/02/2020 19:20

@OnlyFoolsnMothers doesn't seem to matter for you then if long or short nap in day that's not affecting the early morns
How long has it been happening?

OP posts:
OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/02/2020 07:15

5.15 again today OP- I tried milk this time and back to bed with her singing mobile thing- no luck!! She’s fully awake! This has been about the last month- do they still have growth spurts? I remember around 10months old she was awake at 4am every day for a few weeks!

Ronnie1234 · 04/02/2020 21:10

@OnlyFoolsnMothers I'm sure they do have growth spurts or even a regression?!
What about teeth? I'm sure my lo has all her teeth but I have read that the back ones can come through up to 30 months Shock
Definitely awake then?!
My lo is like that when awake adamant to get up
We have had a few 6.30 wake ups now which I'll take over the previous 5.00!!! But I still keep thinking she'll wake early!!

OP posts:
Ronnie1234 · 22/03/2020 06:34

How's everyone getting on?
My lo started waking later 6.30 - 7
But now it's gone to 5.45 - 6
I think it's nap related though so going to shorten the nap
She'll be 3 in June
