Toddler won't sleep alone

Hi all.
My 22 month old has always been a good sleeper, slept through since 5 weeks, easy to settle etc.
The last few months it's been getting increasingly difficult at bedtime. I bath her, get her in her pjs, read a story and put her in her cot. That's all fine until I try and leave the room. If I leave before she's asleep she just stands up in the cot screaming. The last few weeks we've noticed its now getting where she has to hold my hand or cuddle on me or she won't go to sleep. Bedtimes now taking up to 2 hours for her to fall asleep and I am able to sneak out the room.
Basically (sorry feel like I'm rambling) how do I get her to settle herself off to sleep? Ultimately I want to put her in her cot and her be happy being awake by herself until she falls asleep, rather than me having to sit next to her cot for 2 hours.
Thanks!

Have you looked at the supernanny technique for this? Relatively gentle but effective if you can force yourself to stick it out

@Twitchett22 Hello, I know this thread is old but wondered if you had any tips. Our situation is exactly as you describe and I don’t know what to try next.
