I started at about 3

It didn't really work until he was about 3.5 and then it kicked in. Now I am lucky if I get away with reading 4 stories. You have to be firm.

When DD went into a bed, so from 18 months. That's when we introduced a proper bedtime and all that went with it. before that we read books to DD but it would be in the living room, not in bed.

somersetmum · 29/08/2007 21:07

As babies, as soon as they could sit up and look at pictures. I talked to them about the pictures, rather than read them.
I read books to ds during the day from a few weeks old.

One day old.

I agree - I read to DD throughout the day, as opposed to bedtime stories - from being very tiny. DD has always liked looking and books and always takes piles to bed with her at night.

As babies my girls found the sound of my voice reading to them very soothing......
Reminded them of being in the womb...
Not that I talk ALL the time of course!!

Botbot · 29/08/2007 21:18

I started from day 1 too - am slightly book-obsessed myself so it felt kind of natural (and, weirdly, I felt that it was helping to keep me sane in those scary early days).

Biglips · 29/08/2007 21:20

i started last month when DD was 2.9 yrs old...before that ive always asks and she had said "NO!", now i read to her every night.

professorplum · 29/08/2007 21:27

pfb-1 day old
neglected second born-6months

pyjamaqueen · 29/08/2007 21:32

About 6 months I think.

mummymagic · 29/08/2007 21:32

when we started a proper bedtime routine at about 5mths. read stories during day from a week or so though. Dd (16mths) loves books - as do I!

(I am also a drama teacher so admit I adore reading stories )

Bluestocking · 29/08/2007 21:33

Not day one (still in hospital) but very soon after we came home. Like Botbot, I'm obsessed with books and reading, so it felt natural to start straight away.
