What counts as sleep?

Does it still count as sleep if the baby has eyes closed but occasionally whipping his head left and right, kicking legs, waving arms, moaning?

Mine has phases like that. She either wakes up or settles herself back to sleep. So it’s sort of sleeping I think. Unless your little one is having some really vivid dreams???

How often do they do that? And how long for?

Yes I think so

It happens when he is resoothing back down. If he's been asleep but come up for milk, and then gone back to crib. Will lie quiet a few moments and then writhe writhe

then quiet

writhe writhe

etc.

I'm just not sure whether to count it towards his total sleep. It can go on a while!

My DS used to do that to settle himself back to sleep when he had stirred for his dummy. I can't remember if I counted it as actually asleep though.

Mind does it, I count it as sleep I suppose because he’s either in light sleep and resettling or he’s dreaming. I have vivid dreams so perhaps he takes after me!

OK thanks I'll count it, because if I don't he's not sleeping nearly enough.
