What do baby's wear to sleep?

No matter how many times I've googled this question I'm still none the wiser!

Baby is due anytime now, our room is usually around the 16 degree mark, baby will be in a Snuzpod but what do they wear? I thought vest, sleepsuit and swaddle while they're very small and then moving onto a vest, sleepsuit and sleeping bag when they're a little bit bigger but today I've been told you shouldn't swaddle a baby while they sleep because they can overheat but I feel like it'd be too cold to not have them covered? I've also read you shouldn't use covers or blankets in case they get lose while they sleep and that using sleeping bags while they're very small is dangerous because they can either slip into it or out of it? Very confused!!

Vest, sleep suit, sheet and one of those blankets with holes in it when they are newborn. DS had a thin fleece sleeping bag with a zip up the front and sleeves for when he got bigger and more wriggly.

@millicentmartha thanks. is that a sheet over them and tucked in to the mattress? I have cotton swaddle blankets, would those be okay?

Dd has long sleeved vest, onesie and a cellular blanket folded in half when tiny, then into a sleep sack when she hit the weight for them. She was born in January also.

Their hands and faces are always cold, so don’t worry! Check their chest or back to see how warm they are.

I just had brushed cotton sheets with the cellular (thanks mustard) blanket. How thick are the swaddle blankets. The point of the cellular blankets is that they would let air through if they wriggled under them.

Dd2 had
Long sleeved vest
Sleep suit
Cellular blanket on top.

Dd1 had
Long sleeved vest
Sleep suit
Cardigan
Wrapped in a blanket.
Blankets over the top of her.
This was nearly 28 yrs ago. My mum was obsessed with keeping the wean warm😀.

My baby wouldn’t sleep without a swaddle so I’m 100% pro swaddling.

I always put an extra layer on than what they recommend as my DS prefers it.

At 16 I would have a long sleeved vest, sleep suit and then either a swaddle blanket or 2.5 sleeping bag

Long sleeved vest, baby grow and when they are newborn a cellular blanket (although my LO was not having any of it) so I swaddled until he didn't like it and then used a sleep bag. Swaddling helped my baby sleep better too!
I wouldn't worry to much as you will know whether they are too cold or hot a tip my midwife told me was how many layers you are wearing add one more for baby 🤗 x

I swaddled using a gro swaddle with just a thin sleep suit under - he was born in April though. You could swaddle using a Muslin (double check spell checker didn't autocorrect that one) so you can layer up to suit the temperature
