Feeding

Hi there :)! So I have a two week old baby, and I have been routinely feeding her every 3 hours .. and letting her wake at night when she needs fed careful to not leave her for more than 4 hours.
But today while out and about she slept through the usual 3 hours .. is this an indication that she doesn't need the 3 hour feed and try and go for the 4?
She is on 3oz of formula
Any advice would be great

We always just fed on demand - so sometimes my DS would go 3 hours, but sometimes he would only go 1.5. Your baby might want to stretch out some feeds but not others, or eat more at some feeds and less at others. Might be worth following her lead for a bit and seeing what she naturally seems to want! My DS really only started falling into a solid feeding pattern around 3 months. Babies love to keep us on our toes Grin

Yeah that's very true !.. Guess I just felt a bit cruel for leaving her slightly longer but I'm
Sure she would've let me know if she was hungry Xx

Second hodge podge. I never clockwatched and just fed when he wanted it. I think if your baby isn't gaining weight then there is a need for this but otherwise just let them sleep!

I'm hoping my next baby is able to sleep more than 3 hours unbroken at two weeks! DS1 would only do this if he was in our arms!

My baby was very sleepy for the first 2-3 months. She could sleep extremely long stretches so I always woke her up every 3 hours.

Also, I had extreme oversupply so I had to feed fed for relief too.

So today I upped her feeds to 4oz as she had been getting very grouchy over the past day half an hour before her feeds and this has settled her and she lasted a full
4 hours before " telling " me she needed her next feed ! Now I feel a tad guilt because if she's only getting 4os every 4hours is this enough over a day for her age ( almost 3 weeks ) or am I over thinking everything ! Lol x

They generally say 2.5oz of formula per pound of body weight I believe. So you should be able to work out whether she is getting the right amount if you calculate it from that!

Aleshia31 · 06/01/2020 21:13

Yeh that's about right then she's 8.13 does that work out x if she's getting a feed every 4 hours say 6 10 2 6 10 x sorry I'm so new to all this

That would mean she needs 22.5oz a day and currently she is getting 22oz so your pretty much there! Does she drain every bottle? If so you should increase by another ounce and see if she takes anymore.

hodgepodge21 · 07/01/2020 06:51

Sorry she is getting 20oz I meant not 22oz. Definitely worth increasing the bottles if she drains them!

Aleshia31 · 07/01/2020 12:00

She's drinking them all with a little spit up about an hour later so
Will keep her at this the now and then see how she goes over the next few days thanks for your help ! X
