Pillow for 13 month old?

DS has a rotten cold, very phlegmy keeps coughing and waking himself up. He seems to sleep well in with us propped up on my arm or pillow but he's such a climber I didn't sleep a wink last night from 3am when he came in with us because our bed is quite high and I'm worried he'll dive off the edge (he has done this before during the day but I caught him) . He's currently napping in his cot with my pillow under his cot sheet he's been asleep more than two hours, I've got the monitor on and am in the next room, I can here him breathing well and he looks comfortable. Is it ok to do this tonight? I know he's out of the high SIDs risk age but until now he's just had a grobag and a fitted sheet on the mattress, no soft toys, cushions, bumpers etc and it makes feel a bit anxious to give him a pillow. Advice I've read online suggests over a year is ok, but US sites say not until two! Any advice/experiences?

Mine had them from age 1.

Totally fine. I get the anxiety though my first didn't have a pillow or quilt until about 18 months and I was so worried, but younger dc had pillow by about the same age as yours and a quilt a couple of months after when I realised he actually stayed still because of the pillow

He seems so well rested and when he woke up he was stroking the pillow! I'm going to give it a go tonight, keep it under the sheet so he can't put his under it. Either way I won't sleep well tonight but hopefully he will and I'll be reassured. He does love his creature comforts....
