Baby in own room, is this normal for first week?

Hi.
Just put my son in his own room from New Year's Eve. ( bad choice on my part due to fireworks ).
New Years Eve - he went down at 6:30pm, and didn't wake properly until fireworks scared him which he then ended up in our room in his crib again.
New Years Day - stirred a couple of times and fell back to sleep himself from 6:30pm/4:30am. He then came in our bed before he woke up properly at 6am.
2nd January - 6:30pm/1am and wouldn't re settle so had to go in his crib and our bed.

Am I doing the wrong thing by bringing him back into his old place of sleep? We do try resettling him but after nearly 2 hours of trying we gave up. He has atleast one day time nap in his crib then rest wherever we are normally if we are out.

I usually keep mine in my room for the first 6 months or so.

RhymingRabbit3 · 03/01/2020 07:41

How old is he?

Surfskatefamily · 03/01/2020 07:46

How old is he? If under 6mo then keep him in your room. If older I'd say set a time you're happy for cuddles back in your bed. I let my now toddler in bed with me if he wakes after 5am.

Was kinda different for me as we went from bed sharing to not so I'm not sure about moving cots

I could have written this post OP! We moved DD into her room on Christmas Eve and it's exactly the same thing - she was back in our room by 3am. My DD is almost 9 months so following with interest.

He should be with you for at least 6 months.

Delilah7 · 03/01/2020 12:13

To clarify for all the mum police he was 6 months 22nd December.

Both were in our room until too big for Moses basket. And I did often try to do daytime naps in their room to get them used to it. And feeds.
But my second child had reflux so he ended up staying a bit longer as I wanted to hear him... I reckon it was about 4 months each time.

I don't think "mum police" is fair. Your title was unclear

crustycrab · 03/01/2020 17:26

Well you did ask if it's normal for first week baby in own room 🤷🏽‍♀️

Delilah7 · 03/01/2020 18:44

If I've got that routine in the first week of baby being home is be lucky.
Mum police was to the people who assumed he was a week old. :)

Well that is how it read.... I'm a grandmother and in 'my day' we out babies in their own rooms from the very start. These days the advice is 6 months as you clearly know. I believe this has greatly reduced the incidence of sudden infant death (cot death) so I think you're a little unfair to call posters Mumsnet police.
