And how did you know they needed to?

Oh also I should also ask how long the nap is/was and what their night time sleep was too, to compare the amount of sleep over a 24hr period.

About 14 months reliably.

Started refusing the afternoon nap and being able to stay up a little longer in the morning.

We had a transition period of a few weeks when some days he would need two naps still.

My 2 year old now sleeps 11-1 pretty reliably every day and has done for at least 6 months. Lots of people I know prefer 12/1 start times for a nap but we need to factor in the school run and I do lunch at 1.

My eldest was a bit different and never did two hour sleeps. He would sleep at home for maybe 90 minutes, but on a day out he'd still do two naps until he was almost 3, he would sleep in the car on the way there and generally on the way back. Even now he's 5 he will still fall asleep in the car very easily, especially at around 9am or 5pm!

Yes, around 14 months here too. The one nap was around 2 hours.

MamaFlintstone · 26/12/2019 21:54

Just over a year old. She started taking longer to go down for morning nap and the afternoon nap was getting later and later despite capping the morning to 30 minutes. There was a week or so of it being a struggle to keep her awake until after lunch, but after that the routine clicked and it’s worked really well for a year now.

MuchTooTired · 26/12/2019 21:56

Around 14 months reliably for my DTs. I knew they needed one nap when they just wouldn’t sleep when put down for the afternoon nap. They’d sleep for 2-3 hours, then for 12 hours or so overnight.

They’re now 22 months and sleep for a maximum of 1.5 hours for their nap (even if I have to wake them up) otherwise they don’t sleep so well overnight.

ManiacalLapwing · 26/12/2019 21:57

11 months, 1-2 hours, about 11 hours at night. First nap got later until they wouldn't go down for a nap until after lunch so a second nap was too late.

stopbeingadinosaur · 26/12/2019 22:07

11 months, as just started fighting the second nap more and more. Naps for 1-1.5hours then sleeps 12-13 hours at night.

whitetoblerone · 26/12/2019 22:11

I have been wondering the same. My 17 month old still gets tired 3 ish hours after waking in the morning and then still wants a nap in the afternoon too. Sleeps 11.5-12 hours reliably at night. Occasionally doesn't want an afternoon nap but generally still wants 2. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Khione · 26/12/2019 22:13

about 8 months - and didn't nap at all during the day little shit from just over a year.

She 41 now and can sleep for England Grin including afternoon naps

neversleepagain · 26/12/2019 22:17

My twins dropped to one nap at 14 months. Their afternoon nap was 2.5-3 hours. They slept from 6:30 to a dream feed at 11 then through to 7 when I woke them.

neversleepagain · 26/12/2019 22:18

Afternoon nap was 12-2:30/3pm

MeadowHay · 26/12/2019 23:16

Ah thanks everyone. DD is 18m and has slept around 12 hrs a night with 1 nap of 1-1.5hrs at nursery after their lunch since she was about 12 months. But always slept a lot more with me and DH so like 12-13hr sleep a night + two naps e.g. 2hrs late morning before lunch + 1 hr late afternoon. But the last couple of weeks she has been funny with her naps - fighting them sometimes, occasionally skipping one or taking like 30+ mins to fall asleep and then only sleeping for 30 mins erc. The last few nights she has also been waking up a lot in the night which is not usual for her, but she has a cold and is teething so... Last night she slept around 13 hrs and then seemed tired late morning but wouldn't nap and for very upset, she didn't ended up sleeping til 1.30 and she slept til 3 then bed at 7.15. I am thinking she is telling me she needs just the one nap now!

I don't know many people IRL with toddlers and theirs all seem to have always slept a lot more than DD. I know a few people with similar aged kids and all of them have two naps a day for a total of between 2 and 4 hrs. So I was surprised to read all your responses!

never I could count on one hand the amount of times DD has napped for more than 2hrs! Id love a routine with one nap where the nap is 2-3 hours ahhh lol but she never sleeps that long in the day, and then that early a bedtime still!

DS dropped all naps at 11 months. Sleeps 12 (broken) hours at night. It’s a killer

neversleepagain · 26/12/2019 23:25

They have always been big sleepers and still are at 7, we we're treated to a 9:45 lay in this morning 😁

MeadowHay · 26/12/2019 23:47

Aw CF I'm so sorry that must be so hard Sad how old is he? Can you ever engineer them with pram/car or he just won't have it at all?

CFlemingSmith · 27/12/2019 07:44

He is 15 months now. Have tried everything under the sun. Even take him to 2 toddler classes a day to try and tire him, but he genuinely thinks you’re having a party that he will miss out on if his naps 😂 I’m adapting slowly, all just a phase!
