8 month old night waking

Hello. My son is just 8 months old, and I am losing the will to live with his sodding sleep Confused

He slept through beautifully at 5 months, no night feeds 7-7. Then we hit 6 months and he started waking usually around 2 am for anywhere up to three hours, and has continued to do so until now. Very occasionally he will sleep through, but for no rhyme or reason we can pin point, as our routine remains the same each night.

I just don’t know what to do. He is nigh on impossible to settle when he wakes. He’s just awake and does not want to go back to sleep. And when he’s ready to, he won’t self settle, despite settling himself for naps, and when he first goes to bed at night. He’s a thumb sucker and has a comforter also. Even when we try and help him back to sleep he just gets angry.

Any ideas ? I’m so fed up with losing half my nights sleep, as sometimes he’s not going back to sleep until 5 am, and then wakes an hour or so later.

I had similar experience with my DS1, but it started around 9 months. Literally awake until midnight. Health visitor is a great help, give them a call. Babies routine always change. Try to keep him awake day time a bit longer so he is more tired. Because my son did this when he had late naps, I was so tired for ages. Slowly they need less and less sleep. We went from two morning naps and two afternoon naps to just one morning and one afternoon nap. It was massive change. Lost of babies sleep through the night, not my baby 😂 he is 11 months and still wake up for night feed. Don't worry it will calm down soon.
