30 minute naps help

Does anyone else have a 6 month old who will only nap for 30 minutes. She will sleep from 6 till 5 on a night but her daytime naps last half an hour and guaranteed she will wake up?

As your child gets older they naps tend to be shorter. Main thing is your child sleeps through the night which is great so don't worry too much about the short naps during the day. My DD is 5months an also has quite short naps during the day but I don't mind it as she sleeps through the night.

My ds was like that until about one (unless we co napped and then I'd get about an hour and it was delicious and snuggly), then he moved to half hour in the morning and 1.5-2 hours in the afternoon. Now hes 17 months I wake him at 1 hour 15 minutes and he naps once a day.

My son was like that for a good number of months. 30 min naps and would wake every hour to two hours for the first year or so. It will get better, hang in there.

My baby is almost one and had napped for 30 minutes or less in the day since the day she was born! She's simply a short napper! I'm afraid nothing I have done has encouraged her to take longer naps. She seems to be programmed that way....

Short naps are very normal at this age - small babies find it difficult to transition from one sleep cycle to the next without waking up, so 30-40 minutes is par for the course. She’ll probably start to nap for longer as she gets closer to her first birthday; both of mine followed this pattern. Hang in there!

Yep, we went through a horrible 30 min nap phase at 6 and 7 months. By 8 months he figured it out and naps for an hour in the morning and 2.5 hours in the afternoon, but
doesnt sleep through the night anymore. So it'll probably improve without you doing anything...babies are weird!

That's how long the sleep cycle is in a child that age, they naturally rouse after 30 minutes. It may stretch out. You don't say whether she needs you between 6pm and 5am, hopefully you get some longer breaks between those hours, I know some don't!

Great to Know other people are experiencing the same. Rarely she will wake up once through the night for a feed but not often. When she wakes up on a daytime after her half hour naps she's seems refreshed I was just concerned as I know other babies have daytime naps longer than an hour.

You can drive yourself mad trying to change it... I know I did. Especially because everything you read about baby sleep says that short naps are bad! It makes you feel like you are doing something wrong, but you aren't - some babies just like short naps!

Yes, this happens regularly with my little boy! However, I often find that if I act quickly when he wakens and I resettle him he falls asleep again, quite often for up to another hour. Not sure if you’ve tried this already? It’s always bang on the half hour mark if he wakes. Other times he sleeps through for 1-1.5 hours for his late morning and afternoon naps.
