Moses basket

Has anyone used a Moses basket for the first few months? How did you find them? I'm a FTM (due in 5 weeks) and have been given a Moses basket but am starting to feel anxious about safe sleeping. Apparently the only sleeping products approved by Australian Safety standards are cots. Is this the same in uk?

We used a Moses basket- not sure why they would be deemed unsafe. New mattress, cellular blanket, baby’s feet at the bottom of the basket sleeping on its back.

We used one...no different to sleeping in the carry cot of the pushchair I dont think

We had a Moses basket downstairs with both of my children and a crib upstairs in the bedroom so no faffing about carrying them up at night. Cots in their own rooms from 9m both tomes (but they can be moved earlier, I just didn't want to).

Moses baskets are perfectly safe, as long as you have a new mattress, fitted sheet, and nothing else in it except baby and a blanket!

I had a Moses basket downstairs for daytime naps until dd was about 4/5 months.

As long as the Moses basket conforms to safety standards (firm mattress, no loose covers, baby at bottom of basket and on their back) then they’re ok to use in the UK.

Although if you are in Australia I expect you may not need a blanket at the moment!

ChikiTIKI · 15/12/2019 09:50

Yes we used one! You aren't supposed to have the baby sleeping in a different room to you so without one it would be quite restricting I think

reeny19 · 15/12/2019 09:58

Never heard they were bad, we used ours for 5 months for all sleep and he’s only just in a next-to-me crib now, which I view as just a Moses basket upgrade

I never used a moses basket as they dont last long. We had a crib upstairs and used the carry cot bit of the pram downstairs

Thanks for the reassurance everyone! It's getting real and I think nerves are starting to get the better of me. I'm not sure why they are unsafe either but I think in general Australia can be a bit full on about safety stuff 🤷‍♀️

@elfsocksandsnowboots yes definitely don't need a blanket at the moment , it's been 40 degrees here the last four days 😫
