Night weaning at 10 months?

Just wondering if anyone would be willing to share their experiences of night weaning a breastfed baby?

My DS is 10 months, usually wakes for one feed some time between 3am and 4.30am. I have been shortening the feed over a few weeks, and it was down to about 6 minutes then back to bed.

Had previously weaned him down from 3 feeds a night to just 1, and his weight and daytime eating are good.

Had developmental review yesterday, HV suggested trying to wean completely to help him sleep at night. Tried settling DS back to sleep last night at 3.30am, took 2 hours and I had to get DH to help in the end. DS would calm down for me and doze off on me, but couldn't get back to sleep in his bed - would nearly drift off then as soon as I tried to step away from cot he would wake again.

We are going to try again for a few nights, but if it's not better after a week we won't force DS - wondered how long it had taken other people?

Following out of interest...my son is 8.5 months and feeds in the night still. Today I was advised I should be trying to stop this!!! Ummmm...HOW!?!? It’s the only way I get him to sleep and feeds are generally short! My main concern is day feeds as I go back to work January x

Honestly, if he's just waking once for 5/6 minutes then I wouldn't be in any rush to night wean. My DD is 10mo and is the same, although her wake-up is usually between 4.30-5.30. I'm not sure why your HV advised it as it sounds like he's sleeping fine at night if he's just feeding once for a few mins and going back to sleep!
