Hello All- I have a three year old son and am expecting baby number two. We have two rooms on the first floor and one room in the loft extension. As a result our son will need to move upstairs which is not ideal at all but is unavoidable. He also needs to move out of his cot and into his toddler bed- I have only recently felt he is ready hence why I have not done this already and the loft room was in use hence why we could not do that move earlier either. I am expecting baby in six weeks and anticipate keeping baby in our room for 3-6 months so we do have some time before we need the nursery albeit not that much. I am conscious that I don't want my son to feel displaced so would leave a decent gap. The final complication is that my son has some school assessments in a month- I am aware this is mad but again is unavoidable- so I would not want to massively disrupt his sleep then if I can help it.
My first question is should I move him into his new bed and new room in one go now or should I introduce the bed first and then change rooms post baby.
My second question is beyond a stair gate, video monitor and locking windows are there any other safety precautions I should think of for once he is in his own room upstairs and in a bed. Has anyone else had concerns over this sort of set up and was it as bad as you feared?!
I would appreciate if you please only reply if you have some helpful advice (you should have done this earlier or you should move house is not helpful!)
Thanks!
