13 month old ever overtired - help!

Hi hivemind!

I have a question. My 13 month old daughter is a rubbish sleeper and always has been. Slept through maybe twice (f you can count 7pm to 4:30am as sleeping through!).

Anyway, recently her sleep has taken yet another turn and she's going to sleep late, getting up early and struggling to nap. She is so overtired that this is all accompanied by a screech that i thought we had left behind in the newborn phase, plus back arching and now the pleasant addition of hitting and slapping me when i'm trying to calm her down.

Question is - She's an OK napper (most of the time) and will often want a long 1/1.5hrs in the morning and an hour or so in the afternoon but i have been trying to trim the morning down a bit to lengthen out the afternoon in preparation of her dropping the morning nap soon. As she is so exhausted, would it be bad practice just to let her sleep for as long as she needed? Or am i setting myself up to fail?

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I would let her sleep as long as needed personally. My son was always a terrible sleeper but the one consistent thing was it got a lot worse when he was overtired. Also, nap number quantity and timing made zero difference to when he woke up, he is an early riser. It’s gone from 4.30 to 5.30 sometimes 6am at age 3.5 but it was just time.
