Night feeds - Breastfeeding

Just asking for advice - Mums with breastfed babies, when do they start to drop night feeds? Just asking so I know what to expect as I’ve read different info! My baby girl is 7 months and still feeding a couple of times a night. She’s exclusively bf and just having solids a few times a day when she’s interested - thanks

My DD is 9mo and has been at one feed for about two months. I started by just trying to settle her without feeding if it had been less than three hours since last feed, then four, then five, but by then she was extending the time by herself and now she usually wakes for a 10-min feed around 3am. It's more for comfort now as she gets plenty during the day.

I think it depends on the baby.

Mine was 15 months when I finally managed to wean her off night feeds - she woke 1.5 hourly but I suspect she may have been comfort suckling at times rather than needing fed!

DS2 is 18m old and I've just fed him now at 02:54. Hopefully that will be it tonight but I might have to go in again.

Thanks everyone! I’m assuming the sleeping through the night from 6 months thats mentioned a lot is more for bottle feds?! We’d tried letting her try and self settle a bit which involves a bit if crying (never screaming) But I was reluctant to let her cry if there was a possibility she still needed those feeds. X

The sleeping through the night thing varies massively between 4 weeks to 4 years (and then some). Sorry!

Mine is now 14 months old and is now sleeping from 7:30pm to 6am. He wakes at 6am looking for his milk. He's hungry. This is only within the last month. He's EBF and we didn't do bottles as I've been SAHM. He's my DS3, and all of mine (EBF) didn't sleep through till 14-16 months old.

I think I was still up 2x a night with DS3 when he was 7 months old. He was hungry. You can usually tell hunger if they eat and then go back to sleep for a few hours. They often wake up at more random times and not at certain hours. This depends on how much they've eaten during the day.

Baby 7 months here and wakes every 2-3 hours definitely hungry! Takes a big feed and goes back to sleep

I think of it like this- sometimes I wake in the night needing a drink. Why would a baby be any different?

Ds went through a stage at around 8 months of waking every 1/1.5 hours to feed, one night dh went to settle him and turned out he didnt need to feed just needed a cuddle..after that I fed every other wake and dh settled him the others and that seemed to space him out much more

My 2.5 year old just stopped night feeds in the past month. She wasn't feeding during the day anymore but made up for it at night with anywhere between 1 and 4 feeds per night. However she has just weaned herself fully this week, no night feeds at all for the past 4 nights!

Honestly, more than 2 feeds every night til we gently night weaned at 21 mo

It's very normal into at least the second year to BF several times per night
