Tips to relax a very active 5 year old

My dd has a great deal of trouble "switching off" prior to sleep, and seems to be able to fight it quite often.

This ends up with her messing around in her room, and not getting to bed until quite late (+ is very bad tempered in the morning)

The usual bath, book, bed routine doesn't seem to be enough.

I don't want to stay with her all night trying to unwind her- so has anyone got any good tapes, or tips as to how she can do this herself?

My 4 year old dd has an energy burst about 1/2 after dinner which can last quite a while, so i ended bringing dinnertime forward to 4.30 so by 6.30 she's starting to settle and we can begin the bedtime routine. Where as she used to be still jumping around at that time.

We let DD go MAD to the pop channel on sky half an hour before bathtime. She's so physically tired that the bath and bed routine is calmer then! I can recommend the story tapes from M&S (Worst witch etc..) they are really good, although we personally don't use them as part of our routine..hth?
