Almost 10 month old - one nap a day??

My 9 month old (10 months next week) has been waking up at about 4:30/5am for the past couple of weeks and has been really fighting either the morning nap or the afternoon nap. If he does nap twice in a day, one of those naps will only be 20 mins whereas before he would nap for 1.5-2hrs in the morning then about 40-1hr in the afternoon.

He’s had a cold this week and he’s only been having one nap a day. Does this mean he’s ready to drop one of his naps? Or is this just a sleep regression/cold?

I thought it was too early to drop naps but I might be wrong.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

DS dropped to one nap about 10 mo and we persisted until just the last week or so on one (fairly short) nap but bedtimes were getting ridiculous at 2.4

Do what's right for your child, not what a rough average (or largely made up) guide says they should be doing.

FWIW, i stopped napping entirely at 10 months

My nearly 10 month old sometimes has 2, sometimes has 1. If he falls asleep on the school run in the morning in the pushchair he’ll need another decent nap early afternoon as he only ever sleeps for half an hour in the pushchair. However if like today he has a long nap in his cot in the morning (he slept 10-12), then he won’t have another nap.
My first two dropped down to 1 nap completely by 12 months so I don’t think it’s ridiculously early. They’re all different.

Both of my older ones dropped their naps completely at 20 months.

My 14 month old has has one nap a day since about 6/7 months. She is just a ball of energy during the day. I vaguely remember DS dropping his naps completely by 18 months. Every child is different. Some like lots of sleep, others like quick naps, where as others stay awake until exhaustion hits looking at you DD

My 9 month old has been having one nap a day for a month now. She won't have any more.

My second dropped his second nap at that age, I just didn’t have the time to make it work so I just started giving him one long nap around 11 and then gradually that became a lunchtime nap. Now he’s just dropped his nap at 21 months 😭

DD (generally a good sleeper) dropped to one nap at 10 months.

Be warned, she then dropped that nap to no naps at 23m Hmm. It wasn’t an entirely clean cut as she’ll still sometimes have a nap if we’re out in the car, maybe twice a week.

Thank you all for your replies! It’s good to know that I’m not alone GrinConfused
