Too young to drop nap?

My DS is nearly 19 months now and for the last few weeks has been dropping his daytime nap. He's probably napped 4 days out of the last 3 weeks.

If he has a nap its usually at around 12 for anything between 30mins-2hours. On days where he has napped he won't go to bed until 9ish (sometimes 10pm) and wakes up around 7am.

The days where he has refused to nap I've been making sure he's in bed for 6pm and he had been waking for the day between 6.30 and 7am.

Should I try and stick with the normal nap routine? I have still been trying everyday for a nap, I have tried getting him to nap at 1pm so he's abit more tired but he still won't nap! He just cries and whines and kicks his legs and then he will laugh and start babbling and then cry again, I usually try for 30 mins and then give up. He copes really well doing the full day without a nap to be fair to him. He is really tired by 4.30ish but he doesn't generally get cranky, just looks tired and we save TV time for the evening as he can sit and chill for half an hour while we are waiting for 6pm for bedtime!

Everyone I know with children this age seems to be on 1 or 2 naps a day still and sleeping 12 hours at night and they are shocked that DS either doesn't nap, or naps and is up until 9-10pm so I don't know what's best to do really!

I know it seems young to drop naps but he seems to manage okay and I cant force him to nap. He has never needed as much sleep as some children seem to, and he's a happy, inquisitive bundle of energy all day long so he just be getting enough sleep?

So should I keep trying to force the nap or just give up and give him the earlier bedtime? Any help and advice is much appreciated Smile

Don't force it, do what's right for you and your child- we've just got there at 2.4 (although darling darling darling DS didn't actually go to bed particularly early tonight. His cousin was still happily napping up til 4yo and his other cousin at 2.8 is still napping.

All kids are different (I apparently stopped napping at all by 10 mo so..........)
