which way round is best - or do you leave it up to the babies to decide?

i dont think it matters. As long as the baby has a routine that clearly defines bed time at night ie... quiet play at 6pm bath then story or last feed then sleep. Personnally i think as long as your baby has atleast 12-14 hour sleep in total then its ok. As a childminder i encourage an hour and a half sleep in morning and an hour in pm. not more than 3 hours during day.

I don't think it really matters - as childmindersam says as long as they have enough sleep and know when it's bedtime then should be fine.

DS has long sleep in the morning; doesn't always sleep in the afternoon but he is capable of having 3 hour sleep in the morning as well as sleeping 12 hours at night

I think I posted on your nursery naps thread but if I didn't, I think that most children/babies will sleep less at nursery. DS who as I said will happily sleep 3 hours in the morning at home will also happily sleep 20 minutes at nursery.

He then still sleeps all night . I know I have a lovely baby

He/she will probably adapt to whatever situation he/she finds him/herself in. My ds3 used to nap in the morning, but has recently changed to the afternoon as his sister has started school and it just fits better. He is 19 months so your 6.5 month old shouldn't have a problem adapting.

i did see your thread Pic.Circ. - I'm just a stressed out neurotic first time mother who reads far too much - books and internet and ses all the conflicting advice that's out there!

I'm first time mum and get neurotic too....and have read so many different things that I think anything could be right!

DS is 10 months now and I generally feel I understand him although that isn't always the case.

TracyK · 25/09/2004 19:07

I no what you mean - if I read that putting a tin of custard in the cot would help them sleep - I'd do it!!

I read your other thread too TracyK and didn't respond as I never did a GF routine though did like some of her ideas. My dd used to sleep 1.5 hours morning and the same in the afternoon at that age. Then at about 15 months she dropped the morning and started sleeping 2.5 hours after lunch.

I'm also a neurotic first-time mum who's read way too many books and has v. little 'natural' instinct about how to do things so I can imagine your dilemma about nursery naps.

TracyK · 25/09/2004 20:46

not just reading oo much - also getting 'old fashioned' advice from mil! obviously contradicting all internet stuff!
just to add to my confusion!
