I've been trying to get my 4 week old asleep and in her next to me crib since 10pm... we have still not managed it without her waking up crying after a few mins every.single.time!

This is just a little message to anyone with a crying / stuck to you / sniffly/colicky/teethy baby who is exhausted and feels like the only one awake in the world... you are not alone!

I’m awake with you but just feeding.

OP If you can do it safely then cosleep. It will save you the worst of this.

Mine is 2 weeks old and I think, part owl... She comes awake at night time.
I haven't managed to get her to sleep in her snuzpod before 5am ever 😴😴

@hormonesorDHbeingadick we've tried co sleeping too, but she also wakes up then and literally needs to be on top of us.
A week ago she seemed to take to the next to me crib.. we all rejoiced, and had a few nights of 3-4 hour sleep stints - it was revolutionary! We now seem a long way off this again... Confused

@BeyonceKnows 2 weeks is a tough time.. the lack of sleep starts to properly catch up with you! I hope you're doing ok and recovering from the shock of birth / newborn

Hi. Our 5 week old doesn't like the next to me Crib at the minute as she rattles around in it. She is too small for it.

We use the moses basket that is supposed to be her bed for down stairs naps. Lol.

Will transfer to the crib once she grows into it.

Have you tried tucking a blanket in around her? Warming it up with a hot water bottle? We did this and she still Didn't like it but it could work for your baby?

Hope you managed to get some sleep.

We've had a week of her not settling until the small hours but it'll pass. Riding the wave at the minute.

Easier when you only have the one i guess, i feel for those with toddlers to entertain as well.

I have 3 DC. When they were babies I lived for the day they would sleep all night and not be up at the crack of dawn.
Now they are older I can't bloody sleep!! Up and down all night!! 😫

@MrsGreenhouse My DH had an important work thing on today so we couldn't do shifts!
I stopped trying at 3am and let her sleep on me while I dozed. My mum is visiting today so hopefully I can disappear for a nap!

Agree, I don't know how people do this with toddlers!

We do wrap her in her blanket so she feels safe and secure in the next to me crib and she's slept in it well before. I think the issue is being congested, which means when she lies flat it's uncomfortable. Until that's passed I'm just going to let her sleep on us and stop trying to put her down as I'm conscious she then gets disturbed.

Thanks op needed this today! My dd is 4 weeks old and I think I managed about 2 hours of broken sleep last night. I also have a 2 and a half year old so I am completely shattered. They all sleep through eventually right??

@Yippeeayeyeah Wow, you put me to shame! I have no idea how I'd have coped with a toddler today!

Fingers crossed for a better night tonight...
I have to stop reading some of the other sleep posts that talk about sleep issues as 4 months, 6 months, 1 year etc!! I'm telling myself it's just hard at the beginning and will get better!!

In some ways it’s easier with a toddler as you have to just get on with things you have no choice.
I remember DS never slept for 4 months I was lucky to get 3 hours a night it near broke me.. the good news is that things always get better, he sleeps 13 hours at night and a 2 hour nap!

I do have the fear! She's almost perfect during the day and lulls me into a false sense of security, then as it gets later and later she gets more and more grizzly!

The sleep gods have smiled down on us tonight, she slept 11-3 which is one of the longest ever, and she's just guzzling a feed now.

Thinking of all the other sleep deprived mums / dads tonight!

Currently sat up with DD who is 15 months. She's going through a phase of waking at around this time and only wanting to sleep on me, even though she's clearly very tired. Just cries and cries when back in her cot.
This is the second night this week. She's normally tired enough to fall asleep by 6am... Confused
Glad you got more sleep OP, it's so nice and refreshing when you get those extra hours!

I'm awake, just fed 11 month old DS who has done an epic fart and now doesn't want to go back down so I'm holding him while he sleeps. I've got to be up for work and sort the older DC out in 2 1/2 hours 😐

@TheLolaMontez and @wejammin I hope you both manages to get your DC down and get a few extra zzzz's. It's so frustrating when they want to sleep on you, because they're asleep (which is great), but because they're on you, you're not able to sleep yourself... it's just cruel!

I'm on mat leave and can't even imagine doing this and then getting up for work Shock

Up now for the second feed, it's that weird time of the morning where it's a bit too early to want to get up, but getting her back to sleep might be tricky... plus my DH will be up and crashing about soon!

Any time I put my DD down tonight she starts flailing her arms and waking up. Then has to be put back on the boob before she will settle again.

It's only midnight, but I'm so tired already and am dreading another sleepless night Sad

Had another rough night here Sad I think I managed about 2 hours broken sleep. She wakes up but only takes an ounce or two. I’m thinking she could be waking from wind as every time she cries she lets out a series of farts. Anyone any wind suggestions?

I only know the ones that everyone seems to recommend but not sure how well they work... bicycling legs, tummy massage, more frequent burping... mine definitely wakes up sometimes due to wind/tummy ache.

Can you manage a nap today? 2 hours sleep is rough. I'm on 4 hours sleep and am starting to flag...

I promise it gets better. I could have written any or all of these through DS baby days. He's still not brilliant at 2.3 but is quite happy to just snuggle beside me and let me sleep mostly.
