Time to drop naps?

DS is 2.5, and I’m wondering if it’s time to drop his nap. He had a lovely routine until about two months ago, but it has gone haywire recently and isn’t working for anyone.

In an ideal world he would nap between 1-3, then go to bed 8pm - 7am. He was doing that up until August (when we moved house, no idea if that is related or just a coincidence).

He fights his nap and now usually goes down at about 2-2:30pm (used to be just after midday). But then once he is asleep he will sleep for 3 hours plus - we have to wake him at 5pm for dinner, but he would sleep past 6pm if we let him, so he is obviously tired. He is then wide awake until 9 or 10 at night (we put him into bed at 8pm but he doesn’t sleep), and sleeps through to 7-8am.

When we don’t let him nap, he is really grumpy by about 5pm and needs to be put to bed by 6pm. Doesn’t sleep as well at night (overtired, keeps waking up throughout the night).

Should we just drop the nap and have done with it? Persevere with naps but wake him up earlier? (He is in an awful stroppy mood all afternoon if we wake him up). Carry on with late naps and late bedtimes until he can cope better with no naps?

Yep. Cut or reduce them. Don't let him sleep longer than 45mins. It's a sleep cycle so should be easy enough to rouse him.

If he sleeps in the car, then pop him in after lunch, drive round a bit til he drops off them grab a drive through cuppa. Time him and wake after 45mins.

It sounds like he still needs his nap.The change may have unsettled him but stay with it,when the clocks go back he will be napping at the right time.
You are lucky that he stays asleep until 7-8am,mine was up at 5-6am no matter what time she went to bed.Full of beans and ready to play.I am not a morning person.
