9mo has gone to one nap a day, goes to bed at 6pm--is this OK?

What it says, really. My 9mo has not been a huge napper since she was about 6mo old. She now seems to have decided to have only one one-hour nap a day in the morning and won't nap in the afternoon no matter what. I've tried everything, and am wondering if this is just natural for her?

Since she dropped her afternoon nap, she of course gets tired in the evening and is ready for bed soon after dinner. She goes to sleep at about 6pm and usually sleeps through till 6:30am, but I semi-wake her and give her a bottle of formula when I go to bed at 10pm. If I don't do this, she wakes up about 5am and won't go back to sleep. I brush her teeth again after the bottle.

She is combo fed (breastfed apart from two bottles of formula in 24 hours) and eats solid food well.

Is it natural/okay for some babies to just drop a nap very early? And can I keep the "dreamfeed" for a while until she is older, as long as her teeth are getting brushed afterwards?

DS went down to one nap at 10 mo but wasn't great at bedtime overnight for much longer.
I apparently stopped napping at all at 10 mo

The long and short of it is, all babies are different and if it is working for you as a family, stick with it!

6-6.30 at 9 months old is living the dream!

Just roll with it. All babies are different, it’s great if that’s working for you. Smile

When my DD dropped her afternoon nap I turned her morning one into a lunchtime one so she sleeps from 12-1.30 give or take. I thought she wouldn’t last the morning but she was fine.

Similar to PP. My DD started skipping her afternoon nap at around 9/10 months and would be really cranky. So I just pushed her morning nap back to after lunch. It only took a couple of days of keeping her awake in the morning and she's accepted it well. She now probably has more sleep in one good nap than she was having before. She now has that elusive 2 hour nap some days!

But if your routine is working for you stick with it. Her night time sleep sounds fab.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I guess it is OK for her to only be on one nap a day then? I was a bit worried because I always felt vaguely that daytime sleep was "important" for them in some way. It's good to see some babies are just like this.

Yes, her nighttime sleep is good, although she does not always sleep through of course--depends on her mood and health!

@Kokeshi123 I couldn't have written this post myself when DD was around the same age. She is now 13 months and still has the one nap around lunchtime for 1.5 to 2 hours. She does wake later in the morning usually 8.30am and usually sleeps through. They are all so different but good to hear I'm not the only one with the one nap! 🎉

My baby dropped to one nap at about 5 months. Then dropped all naps at 12/13 months.
Was sleeping 11-12 hours through the night though, don't know if this makes a difference.
All babies are different, if that's what she's naturally chosen to do it must be right for her
