Hourly night wake ups!

My DS is 6 months old this week and for the last few nights has been waking up in the night hourly and crying. We are both exhausted. He is teething terribly and I feel so sorry for him, I assume this is the cause of his wake ups as he wakes up and whimpering or crying each time and jabbing his fingers in his mouth. There are hard white dots on his bottom gums and his gums are swollen but it has looked this way for over two weeks now, and he seems to have been in discomfort from teething for two solid months and still no teeth. The last few days have been the worst it’s been though. He’s also struggling to nap due to the pain. We’ve tried all the usual; teething gels, teething toys, anbesol liquid, teething powder. Calpol seems to help a little bit. Seriously how long is this going to go on for? I’m getting that worked up at night from sheer exhaustion that sometimes I don’t manage to drop back off to sleep in between his wake ups and I’m a walking zombie. Earlier on a sprinkled coffee granules on my cereal by accident!
Any advice? I wish I could take his pain away.
