I feel like all I do is try and settle an overtired baby!!

I’m losing it!!

I’ve tried putting him down awake but drowsy, I’ve rocked him, I use white noise, been in the car, used the swing, the pushchair but it just seems the last few days have been hell!! He falls asleep but is awake after only 20 mins and I can’t seem to settle him back off! I’ve tried leaving him to see if he will drift off on his own and he just ends up in hysterics.

I have a 3 year old which just seems to scream or shout just as my youngest is at the brink of falling asleep! My husband can’t settle him so I constantly shout at him for not helping when he really is but how can I just let my baby scream?!! He’s only 6 weeks old so I know it’s the peak of crying age, growth spurt time and it’s f**king hot! He’s hot, I’m hot and I’m so so fed up!

Is it bad that I can’t wait to get to the 3 month mark? 😫

I remember it well. If someone had knocked on the door I would have happily sold them DS.

The next day he gave me a beaming smile and was a totally different baby. Hang in there. 6 weeks is horrible.

Lubilu28 · 27/08/2019 20:22

He’s been awake since 5.45 and I’ve only just managed to get him to sleep on me!

Also forgot to add that he settles himself off at night every time which I am so grateful for but the day times are becoming extremely tough! I’m on my own all day and even when my husband gets home I feel like I’m on my own!!

If it’s any consolation I’m now at the 7 week mark with my dd and she was like this around 5-6 weeks before it started to ease off
Hopefully will be the same for you..
No real advice as she just sort of got better but I do think her taking to the dummy better has helped so maybe give that a go?

Lubilu28 · 27/08/2019 21:40

maltedmilk88 thank u I think that hearing it gets better is all I need. He’s had a dummy from the first few days and has took to it really well, but when he’s got past the point of tiredness he just constantly spits it out.

I know there’s no real answer to this but it’s nice to know I’m not the only one. The only thing that helps when it’s really tough is when he throws me a smile. But starts insanely crying afterwards 😫😫

Omg OP I could have written that myself!! I have a nearly 6 week old exactly the same.

MaltedMilk88 · 29/08/2019 00:04

How’s your day been today?

Lubilu28 · 29/08/2019 07:29

maltedmilk88 Tuesday was really bad, the heat could be blamed for that tho. yesterday was a lot better! My 3 yo was at nursery so he literally slept all day. Was a struggle to get him to sleep at 7. Could be the so called witching hour 🤷‍♀️

rosyedith I’m glad I’m not the only one 🙌 hopefully it won’t last much longer. I just don’t get it that I can put him to bed awake at night and he falls asleep on his own but he can’t do it in the day at all. I guess I can’t really complain but it makes the day really hard work.

Mine massively struggled with day napping until about 4 months, when we nailed the into buggy with white noise and Snoozeshade over method. Still cried and needed jiggling to go down until 8 months. Always went to sleep on own at bedtime, no issues 🤷🏻‍♀️

LuckyKitty13 · 29/08/2019 08:23

Have you got a sling? I find them magical for sleep!

MaltedMilk88 · 29/08/2019 08:38

Glad to hear you had a better day yest, my DD goes down fine at night too and like I say it’s got 100 times better now as she does nap in the day but only 2-3 maybe and max half hour at a time. Also can’t put her down during that time it will only be on me if we are at home.

Very occasionally she will nod off if out and about in the pushchair. Even though the straps are still to big I’ve taken her out of the carrycot and put her in the main seat pushchair bit and she much prefers that and can nod off, at the very least she is calm whereas in the carrycot she would cry.

Car journeys are a guaranteed at least half hr nap too driving round if she was exceptionally overtired

Hope that helps and it’s only upwards from here for you

A sling worked wonders for me as it meant he settled instantly and I could get the house done / have a cup of tea/ and watch netflix spend time with the other children

Lubilu28 · 29/08/2019 09:51

I have a babybjorn mini carrier and a caboo carrier but I feel like it’s been too hot to have him so close to me. Also he’s not the smallest of 6 week olds 🙈😂 he’s already heading into 3-6m clothes due to him being so long but I swear he’s a st already 😳 getting weighed tomorrow haha

Managed to get him down for half an hour so I managed to get dressed and sorted now he’s asleep on me again! DS is downstairs watching tv and I’m feeling so guilty 😔

I hear you. I also have a 3 week old and a 6 week old. 3 yr old has her last day at private nursery today (see does 2 days a week). I need to dry my hair but I can’t as every time I put the baby down she wakes up.
She clustered feed yesterday from 2.30 to 10.30. It does not help that she has reflux and I suspect cmpa.

I’m going to try out the sling today.

inmyfeelings · 29/08/2019 14:40

The caboo is hot and sweaty as there's layers of jersey . The bjorn is not a comfortable carrier . A thin, buckled cotton carrier saved my life ( the connecta ).

LuckyKitty13 · 29/08/2019 16:56

Agree neither of the carriers sound any good! Bjorn is an awful carrier for you and baby. The caboo is good but hot. Get yourself to a sling library . I have a connecta too - fab!

Lubilu28 · 29/08/2019 17:43

I’ve gone with what he wants today and he’s basically just cat napped all day and hasn’t been too grumpy. He’s also fed almost every 2 hours from 7.30 - 2.30. My first was the same so maybe he’s just heading that way 🤷‍♀️ Also got to remember that he’s gonna be awake more than usual.

I’ll have a look at the connecta carrier and a sling library sounds like a good shout!

Well today I decided to try and put him down to bed awake and see if I can get him to settle off and so far he’s done it twice this morning 🙌

Every time he fussed I’d pick him up and rock/shhh him till he calmed down and popped him back in bed with Ewan on. Had to do it maybe 4 or 5 times but eventually went to sleep. He only had 30/45 mins for his first nap tho but I’m hoping he has longer with this nap.

Last night was still tough, he fussed from 6-8/9 but went to sleep at 9.30 and didn’t wake until 3.30. Went back down at 4 and slept till 7.
