Help! 1 y/o not sleeping!

Hi all. Please help! My sons just turned 1 and is usually a fairly happy chap. His sleep journey has been a bit up and down over the year but currently things are awful! During the night he wakes up screaming, full blown meltdown - takes ages to comfort him (usually try gentle shushing and stroking his face/rubbing his tummy). Then sometimes half way through the meltdown he stops and has a little chuckle/smile then goes straight back to meltdown! Tonight it's happened 4 times so far and it's only 1am! He had tonsillitis a couple of weeks ago and slept fine during that, but it all started a week ago and every night has been awful. Any ideas of what this can be? Or what we can do to stop it? We're going mad here Confused Thank you!

My son is 13 months and the same thing is happening here. He’s never been a great sleeper but there has been times when it’s better.
At the moment he’s waking every hour/ hour and a half screaming. It’s not even like he’s waking up realising he’s on his own then screaming he’s just full on melt down even if he’s sleeping next to me. I’m desperately trying to get some sleep now I’m back at work it’s really tough. Sorry no help but I’m in the same position
