Mum and dad sleeping

So I may be wishing for too much, but I wondered with this whole sleep when baby sleeps stuff. My little one sometimes doesn't want to sleep at night but he doesn't want a feed or winding or bum changing he's just awake quiet happy laying in his Moses basket. I just wondered am I or my husband meant to stay awake just because he is awake even though he's safe and happy in his Moses basket? Or can we sleep even though he's awake. We both wake when he makes a noise wanting something.

Thanks

I am assuming this is a newborn here, who hasn't worked out night/day. If he is chilled and calm, I would just be getting on with sleeping.

I always took the sleep when baby sleeps thing to mean daytime naps. So it was an opportunity to catch up after a broken night, not to be cleaning etc.

Congratulations Flowers
