DS waking after falling asleep - AAAARGH

3 and a half month old DS has started to wake up after between about 10-20 mins sleep everytime he is put down for a nap or to sleep at night.

Why is he waking up? He is fed and changed and burped, warm but not too warm etc etc.

He is now always really overtired and yet after 20 mins PING he's awake. He woke up five times last night before settling.

Is this a phase or recognisable to anyone?

Very recognisable I'm afraid...

DD did/does this too, The bad news is I still have no idea why & she still does it occasionally (now 10 months)

My best guess is that it has something to do with moving between sleep states.

The only thing we did that helped was encouraging her to settle on her own - she still woke but fell asleep again by herself.

Sorry I can't be more help - be unterested to see if anyone else recognises this though..

How did you get her to sooth herself to sleep? Leave her to cry, dummy, give her her thumb?? This sounds familiar - my baby wakes at around 4/5 am when she's clearly still tired but irritates herself awake rather than going back down......

I;ve heard of teaching them to see themselves back to sleep - but how do you do it?!
