Does a 5 year old need a special pillow?

I feel a bit silly for even asking this... I've used 'toddler pillows' up until now, but DS (5) keeps saying he's uncomfortable in bed. His pillow is really rubbish (I know this after a few bad nights!), so I want to try a new one. I'm presuming by this age I can safely get a 'normal' pillow? (obviously not massive).

I'm usually pretty laid back about parenting stuff, but safe sleeping is a real trigger point for me and I often find myself at a bit of a loss to do research let alone make a purchase. Any help/recommendations gratefully received!

Thanks in advance.

I've never heard of a 5 year old sleeping on a toddler pillow. In fact I didn't even know a toddler pillow exists. My children had a normal pillow as soon as they moved into a bed from a cot and grandchildren have normal pillows too.

I didn’t know toddler pillows were even a thing!

Ha! Well that's reassuring! Thanks. I shall get him a proper pillow ASAP. For info... Toddler pillows appear to consist of approx 1mm of fluff. If it weren't for my underlying worries I think I'd think they were bonkers!
