Worried about sleep

Hi,

My little boy is 5.5 months old, he has never been a good napper. Since he was born he has napped a maximum of 30 minutes at a time (on the odd occasion he has went longer than this). He has about 4 naps if im lucky each day. It takes an absolute age to get him to nap, he also wakes up very moody which I think is because his naps are too short.

When its time for bed it takes forever for him to fall asleep, sometimes he can be asleep then all of a sudden he scratches at his eyes, pulls his dummy out and then starts thumping his legs and is wide awake again.

Im a first time mum and I'm just worried that he may have some sort of sleep problem, the only way that I can really describe it is that its as if he can't switch off even though he clearly wants too eg. eyes rolling, yawning etc but the then he just wakes himself up again.

Any advice? x

In my small amount of experience ( mum of a awful sleeper 16 months old ) it is perfectly normal .
Could be due to teething , wind or just hasn't worked out how to calm himself down yet , I found a big improvement at around 9/10 months and that's when slightly longer naps happened and he would be able to calm himself better .
He's still a terrible sleeper but I really have found that everything is a phase that you just have to take it as it comes , one week we will be sleeping through the night the next week we'll be up for hours during early hours of the morning .

Have you tried a white noise machine ?

Thanks for your reply it has definitely made me feel less worried!

I think he is teething which also won’t be helping! Yep! Tried the white noise app with different sounds but it just seemed to make him want to stay awake more 😂 xx

Hi @Exhaustedmaw my 6 month old is exactly the same as this! I hope it’s just a phase and they grow out of it soon 🤞🏼.

Are you putting him down for bed and naps already asleep?
