Can't believe we're onto another new thread already!

OP posts:
tibsy · 30/07/2007 20:49

ahh ginger, hope lo bucks her ideas up and returns to the previous nights success
night all, hope everyone has a good one

GibbonInARibbon · 30/07/2007 20:49

Can't crack DD's early wakings mind you, but at least she is sleeping through.

Wave next time you see me ginger

EffiePerine · 30/07/2007 20:51

Sorry, did I jinx it?

She may surprise you yet...

claireybee · 30/07/2007 20:54

Wow thanks for the warm welcome! I was almost afraid I'd get shouted at for not being hardcore enough
TBH I'm not quite sure how we managed to make no 2 , things have been somewhat lacking in that department thanks to the extreme tiredness...It's probably not cooincidence that it happened around the same time dd dropped the second night feed!
At least I should be able to cope better with broken nights having not had unbroken ones inbetween...thats the theory anyway!

MegBusset · 30/07/2007 21:18

Blimey, DS wasn't even born when SIFTW first started!

Well, we have had four wakings so far, all shushable though. Tonight he is in a sleepsuit that encloses his hands as well as his feet, from these people -- I am hoping that this will help the itch-scratch-itch cycle a little. Poor wee man

callmeovercautious · 30/07/2007 21:38

now I had wondered if Bampa had finally given in to the sleep deprevation and run away from MN - good to know!

Please don't feel I have lots of other new crosses to bear. Throwing food, temper tantrums (nearly 11m!) biting me! and suddenly after 10m not wanting her nappy changed

good to see the old gang!

Amberjee · 30/07/2007 21:46

woah, so many posts!

yeah, calm down EP, it's only a night out. will prob be home tucked up in bed by 10.30

not taken that way tam, don't worry!

MegBusset · 30/07/2007 22:50

Just been watching Help I'm A Teen Mum (trashy TV akert ) and somewhat stern nanny, cross that one of the mums let her baby sleep 9pm-9am, announced, "Babies sleep from 7 til 7!" As if she was in charge of the sleeping schedules of all the babies in the world!

MegBusset · 30/07/2007 22:50

alert, not akert

Tamdin · 31/07/2007 08:37

meg peole like that irritate meso much i can even watch thos eprogrammes. we'd all be very happy with 9-9!

last night same as previous few. bed at 7.30, woke at 11ish came in with us (asked for milk got told no) went back to sleep until 2.45 (had milk) up at 6.30 for the day

Hi everyone,

It was really good to hear from former SIFTWers-so it does get better. Just not soon enough for my liking! Also enjoying the Jesus thread.

Amber - good to hear about your forthcoming night out . Will DS be out with you, or will you be flying solo?

Meg - did the new sleepwear improve anything.

Crap night here. DH apparently got up to her 3 times before I brought her into bedside cot at 2.30. Lots of fussing after that, and a nice early start. Thinking about starting a 10.30pm feed tonight. Things were a little better when we did this, but I kept falling asleep and missing it .

bagsundereyes · 31/07/2007 08:44

x post Tam.

Glad to hear that your night weaning plan is still on track. Asleep 9-9 sounds heavenly for me too.

MegBusset · 31/07/2007 08:48

I got really at that programme (there is a thread about it in Telly Addicts if anyone missed it). DH called it my "huff and puff" moment as I said there shouting "I can't believe she (the nanny) just said that!!" every few minutes.

Anyway... we had an improved night, with a four-hour stretch between midnight and 4, which is the longest stretch in what seems like weeks. After that he was a bit more unsettled, and we had yet another leaky nappy (4th night in a row), but at least he wasn'r rubbing his legs together all night.

Amberjee · 31/07/2007 08:53

that nanny sounds like an idiot. i would actually prefer 9 to 9 than 7 to 7. means a slepe in every day!

anyway, we had a regression last night. but feel ok as he slept until 8am in the end. he woke at 11, 12.30, 3.30, 5.30. dear oh me. just when i decided to leave him and have a night out. hope it was a one off crazy night.

EffiePerine · 31/07/2007 08:57

Amber: hope it's a very quick phase!

Meg: yay for your 4 hours!

Right, it's officially a growth spurt here, DS was feeding constantly most of the night (or so it seemed), he was in bed with us so I manmaged to doze off between times! Might see if we can get more food in him during the day to see if that helps. Every time I tried to stop feeding him and go to sleep he wailed!

tibsy · 31/07/2007 09:10

tam - well done for the night weaning success. stay strong sista wish i had the resolve, although atm, dd teething and its the only thing guaranteed to help with the pain

bags for the crap night

amber for the regression. am sure it will come right again soon

we had a poor night too. up many many times, but i just thrust her to the boob and drifted back off to sleep. felt a little despondent about the turn around in sleep stakes, but i know its her teeth so not much i can do atm
on the brighter side, dd cheered me up by trying to copy my hand jive in the kitchen this a.m. so cute

tibsy · 31/07/2007 09:12

meg, for your 4 hour stretch

EP, i've tried that with dd, tried to pull her off a la pantley stylee and she was having nun of it

Amberjee · 31/07/2007 09:42

EP, poor you having a feedathon last night.
LO scoffed down a lot of dinner last night. It sure didn't help him sleep.

gingerninja · 31/07/2007 09:50

Tibsy, love the sound of baby hand jive, very cute.
For those on growth spurts, stay strong it's just temporary.
Meg, how did the sleep suits go? I don't know if I'm imagining it or my new found positivity is clouding my judgement but lo's eczema is starting to look better. We've ditched the Dr's creams for the last couple of weeks and it did get A LOT worse but even though she's got what looks like elephant skin on her legs, tummy and back it isn't inflamed anymore just very very dry. I'm using pure coconut oil on the advice of the homeopath. We said we'd give it a couple of weeks following their advice and see what happened. Also, I don't think she's as itchy. Last night she itched a bit but I think she was warm. The coconut oil seems very light and lets the skin breath whereas some of the stuff I was using was so gloopy i think it just trapped the heat in. Anyway, i'll keep you posted.

We had a good night after the inital 4 wakings. At about 8.45 she woke, very upset for the 4th time and I said to DH, has to be teeth, let's calpol. Calpol, cuddle, cot and not a peep until 4.30 YES CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? And she went down asleep from my arms. Having said that she was ready to get up at 4.30 and after an hour of trying to get her back to sleep I gave in and took her into bed, gave her a bottle and we all three fell asleep snuggling 'til 7. Absolute heaven.

gingerninja · 31/07/2007 09:54

Just wanted to mention that DD has recently changed her favorite food from peas to salami, hummus and curry. Think she has a bit of a tumy ache last night after shoving handfulls of curry in and barely even chewing. She went mad for it. Perhaps cumin is a sedative or something.

Amberjee · 31/07/2007 09:58

[goes to grind up some cumin...]

Amberjee · 31/07/2007 10:02

hey ginger, you're onto something apparently us breastfeeding mothers should eat it!

"Cumin gives curries their zing. It is a well known galactagogue. Like all umbel seeds, adding cumin to a meal will make it easier to digest. This can be helpful if your baby has colic or digestive stress. One mother from Africa spoke of the women in her community eating small green lentils with plenty of cumin and tomatoes to increase their milk production.

Umbel seeds, including cumin, share the following properties: they are estrogenic and relaxing (sedative); they support digestion, relieve flatulence (may ease a baby's colic through the mother's milk), and they aid in treating bronchitis and bronchial asthma (are anti-spasmodic).

Pregnancy: Ayurvedic medicine from India warns against taking large amounts of warming herbs, including cumin, during pregnancy.

Allergy: Rare.

Caution: Mothers of lethargic babies should avoid taking large amounts of herbs that have sedative effects-such as hops and umbel seeds-as these could possibly make their baby sleepier. Lethargic babies should see their pediatrician as soon as possible.

Caution: Traditional Chinese Medicine warns that warming herbs, such as umbel seeds, should not be taken in large amounts by mothers who tend to develop breast infections.

Sources: Health-food stores; whole foods stores; herbal pharmacies; Asian stores; online stores.

Dosage and Preparation: see Umbel Seeds"

XcupcakemummyX · 31/07/2007 11:22

ds slept
but i bet the snoring from dh reached england
soz all the weary mums out there

callmeovercautious · 31/07/2007 11:29

Thats interesting! I had read about the milk supply thing. I thought it was just fennel seeds for colic but I suppose it is the warming that eases the pain.

Just think of all the things we are learning to use with the next ones - they will sleep like angels!
