Can't believe we're onto another new thread already!

any anti snoring fairies out there
ds seems settled
but i have a mad mozzie
think i will look like i have chickenpox tomorrow

MegBusset · 31/07/2007 22:09

Cupcake: ouch, re: mozzie. I always get bitten much more than DH -- guess I'm just tastier.

Well, we have just had one solid hour of screaming and crying. Wouldn't settle on boob, would settle after a few minutes' cuddling but start as soon as put down again. Eventually (one Calpol dose and a zillion cuddles later) seems to have temporarily settled. But I have brushed my teeth in anticipation of taking him to bed with me early. Could this be the start of teething? Oh joy

XcupcakemummyX · 31/07/2007 22:12

meg
hope you get some rest
the mozzies are going mad here

bagsundereyes · 01/08/2007 08:28

Morning everyone,

Meg - hope your night improved.

Love those ropey hv stories Amber and Shoobiedoo .

Anyone try Ginger's magic sleeping potion?

Crap night here. Longest stretch was 7.30-10.30. Too many wakings to count, though only fed at 11.30 . Nice screaming fit 5.15-6.15. I am not feeling my best.

BUT the sun is shining and I have decided to spend all day pottering around Peckham and Dulwich in the sun, so hopefully we'll get buggy-assisted naps.

Hope everyone else fared better .

Tamdin · 01/08/2007 08:34

morning all.

meg hope your ds stayed settled. ds used to have a crying fit 5-6pm when he was teething and then wake frequently through the night. I am not sorry that teething is over!

cupcake hope you didn't get eaten alive by mozzies (or budgies as i used to call them when i was little!)

our night was same old same old.
waking at 11, came into bed with us and then Bottle at 3.45.up at 7 ofr day
am pleased at how long he went last night for his milk but then he did eat a shed load of food last night so not surprised. if only i had the energy to try settling him in his cot then we might be getting somehwere

Tamdin · 01/08/2007 08:36

Meg sorry read back last post and sounds unsupportive about teething. We'll be here to help you through it

Amberjee · 01/08/2007 08:59

bags for your horrid night.
tamdin, sounds like improvement happening
we had ok night, wakings at 10 and 3, then 6.30. this 10pm wakeup is a new thing, but results in some screaming for a bit which is quite weird.
hope you didn't get eaten too badly cupcakes

MegBusset · 01/08/2007 09:20

Bags sorry you had a crap night. LO woke again at 11.30 (more screaming) so took him to bed with me where he settled OK with a couple of wakings at 3, 5 (leaky nappy arrgh) then 7.30 for the day. Wasn't interested in boob this morning though -- he didn't feed all that much at night so maybe teething is putting him off?

Amber are you still feeding your LO during the night?

MegBusset · 01/08/2007 09:22

Bags the sunshine makes it all more manageable doesn't it? I grew up in SE London btw -- think Peckham has come up a bit since then though!

MegBusset · 01/08/2007 09:23

Oh and morning Tam

Amberjee · 01/08/2007 09:53

Megs, yep, still feeding at night. we've got it down to about 1 feed in the night around 3am, and one in the early morning - i'll feed him 5 or 6 if he wakes up in the hope that it will put him to sleep again! sometimes works sometimes doesn't.
if he really wakes up in a state at other times i might end up feeding him, but i try to hold off a bit and see if he'll settle without.

tibsy · 01/08/2007 17:31

evening lovely lasses

bags for your crap night, hope you managed to rest up today

amber am on your behalf at that HV. she should have just wound her neck in. well done tho for maintaining your calm. you're right, dont want to rock the boat so she doesnt send mums your way, but nonetheless

tam, yey, for continued success, you are getting there, baby steps all the way. besides, dont forget, you dont have to make great strides just yet, it'll all come right when you move and lo gets his own fabby room

our night was good, dd woke at 10pm for a feed as dp got her to sleep and didnt give her the bottle she had her bottle then went back to her cot, and slept til 4am had another bottle then as i'd polished off a bottle of vino then she came in to bed with us and slept til 8.15am ....... i had one of those lie things that people have been talking about!!!

hope you've all had good days, i keep missing everyone off to bath dd soon and get her ready for bed, so hope everyone has a restful night

tibsy · 01/08/2007 17:33

oh and meg, for lo and the onset of teething. it really is the pits for them.

cupcake - hope you didnt get eaten alive!!! and you managed to have a good night

Shoobiedoo · 01/08/2007 17:34

Today and yesterday I managed to get DS to have an afternoon nap after he was put in his pram, instead of him falling asleep at the breast (trying to break the cycle) and though he cried a lot he did eventually go down.

I put earplugs in and avoided eye contact as much as possible, though it was sad because out of the corner of my eye I could see he was puzzled and was trying to catch my eye and smile etc. (Or screaming and trying to catch my eye!) The earplugs thing works for me as I am pushing the pram back and forth in the hall 'cos it somehow though you still obviously hear, the muffled, removed quality means the crying doesn't emotionally hook you and you can think rationally about what you are doing (ie trying to get him to have the nap he needs, rather than inflicting some cruel treatment on him, which is how it feels when he is crying usually.)Maybe this is daft but I got the distinct impression that DS felt that difference, and realised that I meant business and wasn't going to cave. If you know what I mean. It's not a battle but it sure feels like it sometimes.

Well it is not much to write home about but normally he won't nap for more than 20 mins and yesterday he did and hour and 10 mins and 45 mins today.

Has anyone read that Dr Weissbluth book? He says put them to bed earlier etc but DS just plain won't. Why do all these books seem like beacons of hope and then when you read them they don't tell you what to do in your particular circumstances at all?

tibsy · 01/08/2007 17:36

sorry, one more shoobie, at the HV and her flakey red polish, urgh!!!! thats just disgusting.....

XcupcakemummyX · 01/08/2007 18:19

i survived the mossies
the snoring
and being a meanie let dh deal with ds
he said he did not know why he was awake.
must try an early night tonight as dd still on her hol
hello to everyone

Amberjee · 01/08/2007 18:24

ah damn, my browser just crashed in the middle of my epic post
anyway, i'll try and get to hte point.

i've read weisbluth, some of it makes sense, yes, but then a lot of it makes me angry as well like the fact he intimates you are doing your kids a disservice by not letting them cry it out etc.
i'm sure some kids are chronically overtired by not getting to bed early enough, but also i think some might be suited to later bedtime, and all depends on napping during the day etc. only you know what works best in your family and for your LO. if weisbluth was the one putting your kid to bed every night i'd be more inclined to take his opinion to heart. but until he comes and does that, butt out Mr Weisbluth.

Amberjee · 01/08/2007 18:25

oh yeah, that nailpolish thing with the HV, made my stomach churn!

Amberjee · 01/08/2007 18:27

LO is being so cute and the moment, he's doing the beginning preparations for crawling. he practices in his cot as well, so i can officially blame developmental milestone ahead for any wakings.
it's funny though, as he doesn't even sit up by himself yet. i think he's too wiggly!

gingerninja · 01/08/2007 19:45

Amber, for your Mr Weisbluth comment. That's how I feel about all of them and don't get me started on swcnbn.

Well, after a stupendous night we had a not so stupendous night. Woke numerous times in the evening then 2.30 and 5 for the day. She's defo teathing still (middle two front just about to make an appearence. We already have the side two fangs) and her eczema has been itching her. This weather doesn't help does it because the cream all tickles when it gets warm. I do think that the areas that were looking awful the other day are looking so much better. We have some behind the knee and arm crease flare ups and her skin has gone from being like the course side of an emery board to a slightly finer sandpaper.

Meg, we bought a humidifier today to try and moisten the atmosphere in her room because she sleeps with the window closed. If she can sleep through the noise I'll give you an update tomorrow. It's supposed to help with dry skin and itching.

EffiePerine · 01/08/2007 20:32

Bags: for your ba night. Another feedathon here, but I slept through most of it!

Had a lovely day in the sun (my day off work), spent most of it in the park letting DS crawl about and investigate leaves and rwigs . 2 hour long naps - great improvement on yesterday when he got 20 mins max. He did throw up spectacularly when I was getting him ready for bed (not sure what tghat was about) but then went down happily.

Hope everyone has a good night

Ginger: hope your LO's eczema inmproves - the humidifier sounds like a good plan.

MegBusset · 01/08/2007 20:38

Ginger are you still just using coconut oil? Where did you get it from? LO definitely suffers more in the heat. Our GP recommended getting a humidifier but it is so hot at the moment, I think it would be unbearable -- esp as we have to keep bedroom door shut (to keep out cat) and can only have window latched slightly open as we are on the ground floor.

We had a photographer come to baby group today and do a shoot, DS was loving it, smiling and posing to camera like a pro. How come he never smiles on camera for us eh?

Amberjee · 01/08/2007 21:02

ginger that LO's eczema is so bad. heat definitely does make it worse too. hope the night is better.
EP - hope your LO got enough last night to carryhim through tonight.
My LO has been going nuts on the eating thing - roast chicken and potatoes, pesto pasta, mangos, peaches - loving it!

Amberjee · 01/08/2007 21:04

Meg they have coconut oil at neals yard. i don't know where else.

Amberjee · 01/08/2007 21:05

sorry, bad link www.nealsyardremedies.com/
