Baby sleeps on tummy

My 4 month baby boy always wants to sleep on his tummy, I always lay him in his cot on his back and within 2 minutes he's rolled onto hi side then onto his front. He is able to role from back to front. I know about SIDS, but whatever I try to do to keep him on his back it doesn't work, he always finds a way to get on to his front. I do agree he sleeps better on his front as he only wakes up once during the night for a feed and he's straight back to sleep after.

Is there any tips to keep him on his back or should I just let him carry on and let him be comfortable in whatever position he wants to be in.

I hope this is reassuring for you. When DS was a baby we put him on his side (the advice in 1991) and put bumpers either side of him. His sleep was fitful (as you'd expect from a newborn) but within about 6 weeks he'd learned to roll onto his stomach and was sleeping better. We'd always turn him back onto his side but he'd roll back over.

His mum and I had a chat and decided he was a tummysleeper. Over 20 years later his niece, my DGD is also a tummysleeper, also from about 6 weeks of age.

From that age I would just leave him if he's on his tummy. Just make sure there's nothing in his cot like bumpers, blankets, teddies etc.

Once they can get themselves into a position, they can usually get themselves out of it or comfortable at least.
