Wwyd let toddler play on landing or force back to bed?

We recently moved 2.5 year old ds to his own bed which went great, didnt leave his room carried on sleeping well etc.

This hot weather however has sent him loopy and the last few nights hes been in and out of his room, bringing a toy out onto the landing and playing there (it's a bit cooler and we have a stair gate at the top of the stairs.

Up until tonight we have been making countless trips up and down putting him back in his bed telling him not to leave his room again on case he wakes up his brother etc, but it inevitably ends up with him coming out of his room again and then ultimately with him in tears and us frustrated and getting angry.

So tonight we (or rather, I,) have decided to just let him play on the landing and see what happens but my Dh is worried hes just going to get overtired and excited. I think that, as long as hes playing quietly he will eventually wind down enough to go back to his room - or we can just make the one trip a bit later on.

What would you do? Keep up with the constant putting him back to bed or relax a bit?

No harm in seeing what happens!

If he is a climber I wouldn't leave him on the landing alone with the stair gate.

Can you get a safe fan for his room?

Myyearmytime · 06/07/2019 20:09

How hot is his room
Have you hot one of those cool pads

Hes not a climber, never even attempted so not worried about the stairgate.

I've just been up as it looked like he had fallen asleep at the top of the stairs but he was just playing quietly with his favourite truck - oh and hed done a poo which seems to conveniently be happening when he wants our attention but that's a separate potty training thread!

His room is definitely too warm so I dont blame him for not wanting to be in there but we dont have a safe fan - is there such a thing? I definitely dont trust him with anything electrical in his room.

I put him back to bed and he was straight out now back in his spot where he can hear us chatting (which he probably also quite likes) and playing quietly with truck.

What's the harm, especially if his room's warm? Leave him there unless he's actually disturbing others.

Sounds quite a cosy scene.

Hes just done another poo now I feel terrible that hes forcing himself to do poos in order to get our attention! But until then he was playing quietly and it's been a lovely calm evening. Hes back on the landing now we are having dinner so just going to leave him until we go to bed now.

I'd let him come downstairs to be with you and play until he falls asleep.
The landing is OK though as long as there is a gate at top of stairs.

If he wants to hear you, you cd try reverse monitor in his room? So he has sound of you downstairs... or white noise
