At what age did you introduce a pillow

I was wondering when everyone introduced a pillow? My 16 month old sleeps just fine and I hadn't really considered whether she needed a pillow until recently. I don't want to deprive her but it feels unnecessary. She's currently happy in the cot in her sleep bag with her comforter.

At what age did you give your child a pillow to sleep with at night?

1year

I only introduced a pillow when DC moved out of the cot into a proper bed.

Huh! 2 quite different answers! I must admit I was thinking the same about a pillow when she moved in to the bed part of the cot bed.

They are ok from age 1 so my 2 got one at that age. My ds never went into a bed until he was 2 and a half

GivemeGinandTonic · 04/07/2019 19:39

They say 1 y/o but as you say she seems to be fine, it’s probably more that we are conditioned as adults to need one

Teddyreddy · 04/07/2019 19:42

For DD from about 2 when when she asked for one - I think she wanted it because her older brother had one. For DS, I think I was a bit later, probably about 2.5 when he started sleeping on his side rather than on his tummy. They are pretty flat pillows though.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 04/07/2019 19:47

I’ve just bought one for my 15mo. If she slept I wouldn’t bother for ages yet but she doesn’t sleep so I’m introducing random things on the basis that they can’t make matters worse. Grin

Can’t remember when my older child started using one... older than this I think. They’ve both bedshared with me since birth so I didn’t have that obvious point of ‘cot to bed’ transition to introduce it.

MustardScreams · 04/07/2019 19:47

Dd was about 18 months I think. I just gave her a flattish one off my bed and she loves it now. Although did have an epic meltdown one night where she was sick on it and inconsolable when I had to wash it. “Myyyyy pillowwwww!!!!” until it was clean and dry. That was a fun night!

crazychemist · 04/07/2019 21:44

My nearly 3 year old still doesn’t sleep on one. She has one, and sleeps just under it. Duvet stays folded at the bottom of the bed.... wonder if she’ll ever use one?!?

IncrediblySadToo · 04/07/2019 21:47

Don’t change a single thing!

Plenty of time for pillows, no advantage to her now!

ifoundthebread · 04/07/2019 21:48

Ds around 9 months. Only reason was he was suffering really badly from congestion and would only sleep when snuggled in propped up so I tried a pillow as a last attempt at us getting some sleep and it worked. He is now 15 months and lies all different ways in the bed so it doesn't get much use.

happymummy12345 · 04/07/2019 21:48

At 17 months when he went in his toddler bed

bloodyneighbour · 04/07/2019 21:50

12 months. Along with a duvet.

Pantsomime · 04/07/2019 21:50

A year and I’ve really struggled to get children size pillows

Byebyefriend · 04/07/2019 22:02

Ds got one at about 18 months. He started to use his toy bunny as a pillow so thought a breathable toddler pillow was preferable to a face full of fluffy toy.

SuzieQ10 · 04/07/2019 22:03

At 11months.
DD had a nasty cough and I thought it might be better for her head to be slightly raised. It usually gets pushed out of the bed into the floor.

Mrscog · 04/07/2019 22:05

1 year here, really improved their sleep for us.

sheshootssheimplores · 04/07/2019 22:08

About 4 which is when he transitioned into a single bed from his cot. I think it’ll be the same for DS2 as he is still happily in his cot at 3.5.

nailslikeknives · 04/07/2019 22:19

About 3 yrs old

GiggleMcDimples · 04/07/2019 22:42

Both mine were around about 18 months when they started being able to climb out of their cots so had to go into a bed. Bedding came with a pillow case so that's when they had a pillow.

Littleguggi · 05/07/2019 04:29

Brought a children's sized one which is pretty flat from IKEA when DD was 2.5 years. Stops her from wriggling around so much at night and wish I'd brought her one sooner!

TheCuriousSofa · 06/07/2019 16:04

18 months? 2? Something like that. She started to make a fuss about her sleeping bag, so we got a duvet and the pillow came with it as a set. It's still 50/50 whether she sleeps on it or off it, and she's now almost 3.
