Please help me fall asleep

My newborn is 4 days old and I haven't slept more than 2 hours a night since 2 nights before he was born. I'm exhausted!

I've always found it really hard to fall asleep and I'm really struggling now. The baby settles easily between feeds so I do have lots of opportunity sleep but I just can't switch my mind off.

Does anyone have any tips/advice?

Get some melatonin. I use Biovea quick release - its like a miracle for me. I have trouble getting to sleep but not staying asleep.
There's slow release if you have trouble staying asleep.
It's not a sleeping tablet so you will still wake up when the baby cries.

The first 4 months are the hardest. Good luck x

Headphones on and listen to a guided meditation/yoga nidra recording on YouTube.

A meditation type said the trick to intrusive thoughts isn't to try to block them. Rather see them, hold them and let them slip through your mind. Do you have a happy place you can imagine? Mine is sailing.

@glitterfarts this is a fantastic suggestion, thank you. Is this what you use?

@MrsTerryPratchett I tried this earlier and it seemed to work so thank you. Mine is a beach in Panama. It helped me with my hypnobirthing too.

So glad it worked. I find it hard to visualize places so I use the sensations more. Water through fingers, hot sand, that kind of thing.

Beach in Panama sounds great!

Yes, that's exactly what I use. If exhausted, I take a half tablet, other wise a full tablet.
