Cot to toddler bed

After some advice guys,,, so my little girl just turned 2 on Wednesday and I am currently 25 weeks pregnant, now we have just redone her bedroom and moved everything around to accommodate her baby brother when he comes (they will be sharing) ,

Now we have been trying to get her to sleep in a toddler bed from her cot the last couple of nights which have failed and we have resulted in putting her back in the cot,

I am wanting to start the transition from cot to bed now so we have plenty of time before baby comes and so she has plenty of time to get settled

Has anyone got any advice to make it easier because she has just wanted to play and has been getting out of her bed as soon as we turn to walk out the room

The two options we considered were either buying a 2nd cot (cot bed in our case) or staying with DC until they fell asleep. We went for the option of buying a 2nd cot bed - you can buy the frame for about £20 and then you just need a new mattress. We did have a smaller gap between DC1 and DC2 than you though.
