Do you limit your toddlers naps?

My little boy is 16 months old, and only naps once a day. He could fall asleep at anytime from say 11.30-3.30 depending on the day, how busy we are, if we're out and about or have visitors etc. When he has a longer nap at anytime of the day (even 11.30-12.30 he could be up until 10pm. Right now he's still awake and that is what he napped today.
He attends nursery once a week and when I mentioned limiting his naps to get an earlier bedtime, they said that might not work. Can anyone help on what your experiences have been of when to start limiting naps and how long should a short nap be? Is half an hour too long/short?

Thanks!!
