Toddler Bed - 14 Month Old

Hey everyone.

Currently I’m bedsharing with my 14 month old (have been for a while). It works for us as we both get a full nights sleep but I would like my own sleep space back soon (or at least my husband to stop sleeping in the spare room 😂).

My LO has never taken to the cot. He hits his head, gets his arms and legs stuck and generally doesn’t seem to settle well in there. We tried several techniques and nothing seemed to work - he’s never done a full night in his cot.

Yet when he’s in my bed he puts himself to sleep and doesn’t stir when I get in and I don’t hear him until he wakes in the morning.

I’m wondering whether we should change his cot in to the toddler bed or just put a mattress on the floor in his room? I think he’s still a bit young for that though. He can safely get himself off of my bed (which is higher) and he is a confident walker. His room is babyproofed.

Has anyone tried this? Any tips for gently stopping bedsharing?

Thank you.

my friend had a similar situation, and she got a readybed like this to see if he would settle. she kept it in her room on the floor until he was a little older, before moving it into his own room. when he had outgrown the readybed, she bought a proper toddler bed. her ds liked it as it had the padding around the head, so he felt secure.
