How do I wean my 5 month old off his dummy?

My baby naps and sleeps with a dummy and it’s a real comfort for him.

However, at night whenever his dummy comes out he wakes up grumbling until we put it back in. We currently swaddle him (whole other issue) and when we tried to unswaddle him he just knocked his dummy out what felt like every 5 minutes.

He’s quite a sensitive baby in that he loves to be swaddled, cuddled, rocked, comforted to sleep.

Please any tips on how we can get him off his dummy? Ideally in a gentle way...

Honestly? Don't. Attach it to his pyjamas with a short non-choking hazard dummy clip and teach him his to find it himself. He'll soon be able to do it without even properly waking. Life-changing. Lots of people will disagree but my daughter is a much happier baby when she gets a good night of restorative sleep and this has been the number one thing that's helped. Since she cracked it at 6 months I've only had to get up to her twice in the night and that's when she's been ill.
