Eight week old sleeping through night?

I know, I know, I shouldn’t complain.....

DD (first baby) is eight weeks old and for the past few nights has slept from 10pm - 5am! She was quite small for gestational age at birth (6lbs 6oz at 41 weeks) but is gaining weight well and now weighs 11.5lbs. She eats every 3/4 hours and doesn’t sleep much during the day, but at night time will conk out at about 10pm and not stir until 5am. It’s now 6am and she has fallen back to sleep after having a feed at 5am.

The only thing we’ve been doing differently is she’s now sleeping in a cot rather than a crib, and we’ve stopped swaddling her (she was breaking out of it) and put her in a grobag instead.

Apparently I was sleeping for 8/9 hours at eight weeks so perhaps she’s simply taking after me? I’m worried that she’s not getting enough to drink, but surely she would cry if she was hungry? She’s very alert and content when she’s awake.

Thanks Smile

I would check with your HV/GP if you need to be waking her for nighttime feeds. At that age you may be okay not to, as long as she's gaining weight okay. But a quick question to the HV just to settle any nerves!

My DS did this, I just left him to it and he basically slept like an angel from then on. I tried the 'dream feed' a few times but it just annoyed him. He ate loads during the day to compensate.

My second child didn't sleep for two years basically so I got my punishment in the end!

She will wake if she’s hungry. As long as she’s growing ok just leave her be and enjoy it!
