4.5 month old awake up to 10 times a night

My 4.5 month old DS has never been a great sleeper ( the longest he has ever managed was a one off 5 hour stretches and that was about 3 months ago!) but over the past 6 weeks his sleep seems to have gotten worse and worse and he is now up every 1-2 hours all night. He used to settle with a dummy for some of these wakening but for the past few nights all that will settle him is being nursed. I have tried a dummy, white noise, patting, sushing and nothing works

He has a bedtime routine (bath, into pj's, into grow bag, feed) and then goes into his cot awake and settles to sleep himself with me in the room. He goes to bed between 7 - 8pm depending on when his last nap was.

He naps 3/4 times a day and they are anything from 45mins to 1.5hours with awake time of 1hr 45mins to 2hrs 30mons in between.

The exhaustion of not sleeping longer than 2 hours at a time for so long is really getti g me down and I can feel myself getti g more and more distressed everytime DS wakes over night. I am lost as to what to do to help him sleep longer and I can't be the mum I want to be to him through the day as I am so exhausted 😭😴

Google 4 month sleep regression and it will probably tell you everything you need to know. It’s not nice unfortunately but it will pass, I remember thinking I’d never sleep again and not being able to interact with anyone because i was so tired. It did pass though and at six month my little girl was sleeping half seven until five. I honestly never thought I’d see the day. Good luck!

You have my sympathies. Four month sleep regression really wrecked my mental health for a while. Unfortunately I don’t have the answers. Just try to get as much support as you can and rest during the day. DH/DP will have to step in and pick up the slack with the housework etc. The fact that he settles himself to sleep initially suggests that he will get over this better than mine did! Does he fall asleep during the night time feeds? Can you try waking him up a bit before putting him down?
