Baby up for 1.5 hr periods at night

My 8.5 month old has never been a good sleeper but his latest trick is to stay up in his cot chatting and giggling to himself for up to 2 hours in the night. I just ignore him but it's very hard to do and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this before? What's the best way of dealing with it? It's often after a feed and can happen up to twice a night which obviously means he's missing out on a substantial amount of sleep. Thank you

Talk to your health visitor about his whole day and night. You say he has never been a good sleeper, does this include not being good at napping? This is often the way to teach children to settle and sleep. At 8mths he has no nutritional need for night feeds. You might give some supper, porridge works well. The better he settles and sleeps for his naps, the better he will be in the night and bedtime settling

Thanks @Confusedbeetle. He's actually a brilliant napper and always has been 🤷‍♀️ he's having 2-3 naps per day and settles for these quickly. I don't know if the waking up and staying up is the 8-10 month sleep regression or because he's going through a developmental leap. Thanks for the porridge idea- when do you give it? Just before bed?
